Crit vs MP-5.

This question has been asked many times before, and the usual answer is "Try to get a balance of crit and mp5", which in my opinion is a cop out, what is this balance?

Since 2.3 I have been showered in mp5 gear (Badges, ZA etc.) at the same time my guild have been moving through SSC and TK, so i've accumulated much of the crit gear they put in there before they nerfed illumination too. I can (unbuffed) go as high as 20.29% crit (25.29% holy) with 88 mp5, or 14.52% (19.52% holy) with 143 mp5, both have similar +healing (1864 vs 1894) and similar mana (11118 vs 10983). So obviously I could end up anywhere in between those stats quite easily.

I read a post here a while ago showing lots of maths to prove that crit still has the edge over mp5 even with the nerf, but my gut tells me differently.

A quick calculation:

In a 10 minute fight where you cast flash of light non stop (not unreasonable with raid buffs and pots), 1% crit will get you 432 mana, or 3.6mp5, and some extra healing.

In a 10 minute fight where you cast holy light non stop (I wish!) 1% crit will get you 1512 mana, or 12.6mp5, and a lot of extra healing.

So the truth is likely somewhere in between, but even taking the upper limit the Boots of Courage Unending (worth about 1.3% crit) only just beat the Implacable Guardian Sabatons (which I have socketed for 14 mp5).

Mp5 ftw then? Well once again my gut disagrees, theres something about only having 20% odd crit full raid that doesn't sit right with me. In the end it doesn't matter too much, I rarely find myself needing to heal any faster, and rarely run low on mana unless it gets really intense, but I am a sucker for optimisation!

Basically this is a longwinded way of saying I am stumped, what do you guys think?

Balance both.

Where that balance should be will continually change as you progress through end game so trying to pin down an exact answer is pointless for all intents and purposes, it also really hinges on whether you are a FOL spam bot or if you use HL in your rotation as well. Also play style.

You're really not going to get a better answer than that besides generalizations of 100mp5 while casting/ 20% spell crit not factoring in talents.

you should be between 22 and 25% crit and at least 90mp5 for SSC/TK.

You have lots of fancy math and number crunching but I didn't see the main reason to have crit anywhere in there. IT SAVES LIVES. I can't tell you the number of times the extra healing from a crit has not only saved my whole raid. You can have all the mp5 in the world, heal for forever, but if your heals don't actually DO anything they're worthless.

Have a balance between crit and mp5. I keep saying this, and people keep asking amyway.

And how!

Last night I was pulled in to heal for a guildie's final key run in BM. Felt a bit of pressure since I was called in to replace a healer who wasn't quite getting it done. Long story short, we had a great tank and mostly sailed through without problems, but there was one fight in particular where a couple of timely crits -- not forced with Divine Favor -- likely saved us from starting all over again. It's a bad feeling when you see the green bar barely moving up despite landing max Holy Light; when that big green 6000+ popped up I heaved a huge sigh of relief.
