Did I choose the right class?Follow

#1 Feb 20 2008 at 3:50 PM Rating: Decent
I'm alway so indecisive on what class to play. Sometime I like to cast and stay back. Other times I like to have mad health and take hits while tanking, some times I like to just run through and wreak havoc by doing massive DPS in no time. So of course I chose a druid.

I'm lvl 17 and I'm going with a cookie cutter feral talent tree. It seems really slow though. I keep having thoughts of making a rogue because stealth and DPS are my main things. My question is how long will it take for my DPS to really get up there? I'm trying to stick it out to atleast 20 and see how cat form is.

Right now soloing is slow and boring. Its not too hard but I had a lvl 40 lock on another server and lvling was fast and easy. I very rarely needed a partner for any of my quest. Will this soon be the case with my druid or am I wasting my time? Should I just move on?

Solo is my key interest. Occasionally I like to group but for the most part I solo. I know getting a group on a druid will be much easier considering tanks are always wanted. I made a warrior at first but I decided against that because everyone kept telling me they were so hard to lvl.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for anyone who actually read the jibberish and comments.

In the beginning, leveling a druid is slow and painful because you're missing most of your key abilities. If you continue with it, you'll see that druid is one of those classes that just gets better and better as they level.

At 20: OMG, cat form kicks ***!

At 40: OMG, Now it's *really* getting good! Druid rocks!

At 70: All bow before me!! The mighty druid! I have instacast flight form!!

*cough cough*

Anyways, that was my experience.. and IMO, there is nothing that can solo better than druid.

Yes, it is quite slow at the level you're at. Once you get cat form it gets better. By the time you hit the mid-30's you will never look back.

I am a soloist also and I've played every class at least a bit. I consider my druid by far the most efficient soloer (yes, hunters included).

Incidentally, you can do all the things you mention in your first paragraph with your druid, but generally not with the same set of gear.

I don't know about you, but I had flight form at level 68.

You're kidding right? I will have to find out how you play. There is no greater fight than root and shoot. Root the mob, 3 spells, root again, more spells, then they watch as they die at your feet. Not a scratch on you. OOM will slow you down, so go bear form before that and tank them while you mana up. Try to find good armor but it will all come out soon, a good druid: Does not die, Does not slow down to eat or drink, and solo as good as any class.

Holy crap I am so glad I rolled my druid. Running away from mobs, standing at the edge of outlands (as far as I can get), one last mob comes up to me. Of course this guy has a knockback.

As I'm screaming at my computer "LEAVE COMBAT LEAVE COMBAT LEAVE COMBAT" I'm mashing my flight form key, and w00t I LIVED!

Yes you picked the right class, everyone wished they could be a bear, a cat, a extra terrestriel spell throwing owl, turn into a cheetah and fly as a bird!
But being serious now, yes lvl 1-like 35ish? is a lil bit painful at times. At 20 sure you get cat but theres like 2 abilities. But at 35 im pretty sure you get pounce and you already have ravage plus quite alot more abilities filling that action bar, and it leads from there and they are a joy to play. Keep at it, i have had a time where i was bored, at the 50's but you will kick yourself if you didnt stick with it. They rock.

I would certainly say yes you did by what you describe as enjoying. Druids are true hybrids and serious fun to play. The trick is to learn to master their abilities otherwise you will never really enjoy a druid or any other class for that matter.

You will be astounded by your capabilities when you push yourself to the limit. Do the research on these forums with regard to gear, enchants, gemming and playstyle and you cannot go wrong.

Funny story...
Group needed AoE damage. So I cast tranquility..at the beginning of a pull before anyone's taken damage. Note to self: even though tranq and hurricane look somewhat alike (same color and no real shape) tranq is with my healing spells, hurricane is with my damage spells.

We have found that me in my tanking gear using barksin+hurricane then dropping to bear to start the AOE pulls in Kara takes a lot of pressure off the healers in Karazhan. The mages like the "them not dieing" bit too!
