This rogue is in the most progressed guild on our server..

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Firetree&n=Remle

Just wondered what you guys thought of his gemming. Last time I looked he really focused on the old +hit.

If he'snot hit capped socketing for hit will give him the single largest DPS increase.

At T6 levels rogues have a hard time getting their hands on epic red gems since they are in high demand from casters and healers.

Most rogues at that point end up using mainly +10 hit and +5 hit/+5 agi gems.

Nicely explained. I never thought about the fact that the casters would take the reds.

This is false. Hit is a linear stat; Agility is not.

He's 10 hit over what he should be at; he should be sitting at 343 hit max, as he'll be using +20 hit food in raids. That frees up a socket or two for an agility gem.

I'd even go so far as to say that he should go more for socket bonuses when possible using orange gems (5 hit/5 agi), but meh.

Yeah I was at work when I responded and couldn't actually check the link, so I tried to respond with something general that hopefully made sense.

Damn +20 hit food? Where have I been? That is a pretty important fact...no more warp grinding for me...I hope.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but replacing two 10 Hit Gems with two 10 Agi Gem and switching from 20 Agi food to 20 Hit food could be better classified as 'pointless'.

In any event, all stats in this game are (more or less) linear, with the exception of Armor Penetration.

EDIT: He's also naked at the moment, so I can't check what his gearing was. *shrug*

BOLDED due to LMAO.

But what is this talk of linear stats versus non-linear stats? On first thought I would've expected all stats to be linear. Is this something I should have figured out intuitively or perhaps something that requires me to lurk through the EJ forums for a while?

Hi, I'm BoK/UR, usually you get me during raids.

BTW RP, I don't know how your raids work, but usually when you can get more/better stats from grabbing socket bonuses and still be hit capped, I'd take that over being almost hit capped and not getting socket bonuses.

In the end it's a minor change, but there is a difference.

First off, BoK and UR have no effect on whether or not a stat is 'linear' or not. A 10% boost is a 10% boost is a 10% boost, it doesn't make the gains exponential... it just means you gain more from it than you would otherwise. It'd be like arguing that crit was non-linear because you get a free 5% off talents. You're grossly misusing the terminology here.

Secondly, people never upgrade gear without blowing epic gems to regem it. I mean, when I get a new piece of gear I shift all of my other gems around because the supply of them is completely unlimited, and gaining a very minor boost is definitely worth it even though the gear set may change once again at a later point. With his current gearset, he should be looking for a new hat, shoulders and gloves... and most of the pieces he'd replace them with have more +hit than he currently has.

Incidentally, his current gearset on Armory only has 331 Hit. I guess that means he should have socketed even more +hit than he did in the first place.
