Quiver vs Bag (Low level)Follow

So I was doing an instance on my low level hunter and I realized... My quiver is an 8 slotter... While my bags are 16. Why am I using it? just so I can say I have slots dedicated to arrows? So I looked at my tool tips.

using a 1.7 blue quest bow from ghostland I have well... 1.7 attack speed. With my quiver I drop it to a lame 1.43. I don't know know about you but I have a wierd feeling that when I am using a fast bow like this there is no real reason to use a quiver when I can carry more using a netherweave bag.

Am I wrong in feeling this way?

I mean if you can bag up like that then why not do it? It is kind of lame that the first time I will be able to equip a 16 slot quiver is lvl...40?

The increased haste rating from the quiver gives you that much higher DPS. I think you'll find that is worth the lost bag space.

However there are better quivers our there. I'm unsure of your hunter's level but it sounds like he's sub 20. Look into picking up a medium quiver as soon as you can.

Yeah it's definately a good question.

On one hand you use the quiver. It will up your DPS, because the increased attack speed. You don't have steady shot yet, so you aren't restricted to that 1.7 second attack speed.

But on the other hand you can only hold 8 slots worth of arrows.

I would say at that level bag space may be more valuable than attack speed. More bag space means less need to travel back to towns to dump your bags, so that converts to more time our grinding quests, more gold per farming session.

I would go with the 16 slot bag.

P.S. could you link the bow, was it always 1.7 attack speed, or was it a buffed up bow since patch 2.3(how they upgraded all the instance drops to increase leveling speed)?

yeah my low level hunter just dinged 26 last night.

I was thinking of buying a quiver and when I got low on ammo just switching my quiver for my 16 slot bag to have the extra space but with the speed of this weapon it seems a little pointless.

when I get up to 2.7 like the next bow I want I will probably use it by the above method though.

Farstrider's Bow

Just got me an armored boar to go with my Ghost cat. =D

this is a Horde only quest reward but definately a nice bow.

Hmm, level 26 . .. I suggest the medium quiver until you get to 30 and can buy a heavy quiver.

Just stop carrying so much crap around in your other bags. :p

Heh, your pets sound similar to mine. I have the ghost saber and blue armored boar out of RFK. They're both now level 70. I don't want to do that ever again.

Problem is I am skinning and I fish all the time so I manage to fill my bags quick as hell, specially with Auto loot on. It is nice to have 4 16 slotters at lvl 20 when I did it but I wish I could just use a bigger quiver. =D

I still try to use steady shot while I am on my alt... dang them having the same name... then I get all happy when I head to sell stuff until I realize yet again my stack of gray crap I picked up is not going to fetch me a gold or 2 each. =D

I could be wrong, so feel free to test this (I haven't), but here's what I understand to be the benefit of a quiver/pouch vs a normal bag:

If you have a bunch of stacks of ammo in a regular bag, every time you run out of the stack of ammo you equipped on your character screen, you have to manually equip another stack from your bag. That can really suck if you're in the middle of a big fight and every second counts.

With a quiver or ammo pouch, as long as all the ammo in the container is the same, you don't have to keep re-equipping ammo every time you finish a stack. The game will automatically keep pulling new stacks to keep you shooting as long as there's some in the quiver.

Yeah, there's also a minor speed boost, but the ammo management seems like the big deal to me.

I'm correcting it :-). Unless the mechanics are different for hunters. On my warrior I constantly carry 3 stacks of ammo, for pulling. He doesn't have an ammo pouch.

As long as it is the same type of ammo it will just move on to the next stack of ammo, same as if it were in an ammo pouch.

No this is not accurate. The truth is even if put the upgraded ammo into your quiver and you don't change it on your paperdoll as you want to use up your old ammo, you will still have to change the ammo manually on your paperdoll. When in my normal bags I can have 10000 arrows(ok well maybe not that many but I can have a grip) in there and it will burn through all of them without worrying about having to put it on my paperdoll every 200 arrows.

As long as you have Titan bar or something with an ammo counter you won't even need to worry about not being able to see when your almost out of ammo from your quivers little counter.

10% speed boost is +10% dps roughly...
I'd say its worth losing a couple bagslots over that.

Ok, That was what my main issue was that I really couldn't decide. mainly due to the fact I have a habbit of filling up my invin with crap that I vendor. If I have to I will just carry both.

I don't intend on doing the group thing a whole lot with this hunter as I have already done it enough on my main to know how to play my role. I have a friend on this server who is helping me level my toons so I won't stay stuck to my alliance server trying to grind my face off for 3k g I need for my epic flier.

Unfortunately thats also where all my money is at so he has to help me here so instead of funding me he runs me through stuff to catch up so I don't have to run instances over and over to get 1 piece of gear I want. do it 2 or 3 times just tailing along picking off runners and voila the item drops and I move on.

I think the Nightwatch quiver out of Darkshire can be had in late 20's if you have pals that will let you get it as soon as quest is available. Used that quiver a lot.

Personally, the 8 slot issue was a non-issue for me. I was in town often enough that buying ammo was easy. Never ran out in an instance either. If you risk that, carry a couple of slots in a normal bag. As you use the ammo in the quiver/pouch transfer the bag items into the quiver/pouch which frees up those bag slots.

If you have 4x16 slot bags already, you are FAR ahead of what I had back in those levels for storage. I was always out of space.

Give your gold to your friends character. Go to neutral auction house with your Horde character and put something grey up for sale at the price of all the gold you gave your friend. Have your friend spend your money buying your grey item and POOF!! Your Horde character isn't broke anymore.

Note: You can't buy your own items with same account.

Well, from what I can tell we've had quite a few wastes of bandwidth here lately, so wastes of space just fits in quite well.

Yes, I don't know whether it's because I feel some connection with Æthien or something else, but I've always felt at home here...
