Build: Enhancement/Elemental/Restoration?Follow

#1 Feb 20 2008 at 11:17 AM Rating: Good
I am currently lvling a Shaman with my friend. He is a Warrior*,going to lvl using Protection. My question is, which build would be the best to lvl with a Prot War.

*He is my perma partner for this character. When we are both on we will be lvling together.

Here are my thoughts on the manner
#1- Restoration seems the best choice: Great heals for AoE training and can VERY easily find a party for instance runs
#2- Elemental (bet you didn't expect that one):This one can probably add the most DPS seeing how I should not be getting hit.Finding partys for instances will be kinda hard and we might experience a few wipes if I heal (instances or just questing).
#3- Enhancement: This one I believe can be the best for going from mob to mob. Less downtime but a bit slower killing.I can still heal but will be less reliable than the other two.
#4-Restoration/Elemental: This can theoretically give me decent DPS while keeping up with decent healing, don't even know if this is even a ok idea. If you say this one give me a build to go with and where to put my points @_@

I personally prefer Elemental but I love healing and also being in the mobs face as well, so I am not making my decision based off of that. What are your thought(s) on the manner? Thank you, yes even you the one back there reading this and laughing at my #4 idea.

I'd say go with elemental until around 58. You should still be able to main heal up until then. Enhancement won't give you the mana pool you will need, and pure resto with a tank will take too long to kill anything (although you could just spam LBs as resto, they won't hit as hard, but you will down mobs faster).

Ok so...

-Elemental till 58, I can DPS well and should be able to heal just fine.
-Lvl 58 I should switch to Restoration I am guessing this is because the outlands are tougher and resto would keep my tank alive

I will go look up a build for lvl 58 later, but thank you. I would rate-up if I could.(READ: knew how to)

If it's just you and the tank in outland questing, then you should still be able to heal him just fine, but if you are doing outland instances, then you will need to switch to resto.

As far as how rate ups work, once you hit scholar or higher (blue, green, or red name) then you will see a green and red arrow in the upper right corner of each post. You have to have at least 15 posts before you are eligible for scholar, sage, or guru.

From FAQ
Quote:
Q: I see posters rated as Scholar, Sage and Guru. What's up with that and how do I get a
title?

A: That is part of the Karma system. Your Karma rating is determined by averaging every rating your posts have received from the users of the site. The rating comes from posts made under your registered name on any of the rated forums for any game covered by allakhazam.com, but does not include posts on user journals. You must have at least 15 posts before you receive a Karma rating. Then any future post you make will start out at your Karma level. Anonymous posts start at a rating of 2. Titles are assigned to your posts according to the following scale:

Karma below 3 = user. Posts are in orange.
Karma between 3.01 and 3.65 = scholar. Posts are in light blue.
Karma between 3.66 and 4.34 = sage. Posts are in green.
Karma between 4.35 and 5 = guru. Posts are in red.
Administrators posts are in maroon.

I'd have your warrior friend seriously consider doing 2-hand fury for leveling. Protection is going to be really painful.

I would have to agree with the idea of having your friend go fury, or maybe even fury/arms. His greatly increased dps (compared to Prot) will be an enormous help when taking into account the speed at which you kill mobs, and hence the speed at which you complete quests.

One thing to consider as an alternative to doing elemental till 58 would be to try enhancement at some point. Arguably you could go enhance or elem from 1-40 (I would actually recommend elem), but at L40, enhance really comes into its own with dual wield and mail armor. If your friend were fury and you were enhance, you would down mobs so fast you wouldn't really need much healing at all except possibly on elites/rares and the occasional add-fest. Pop a heal off every once in a while between mobs to keep you both truckin' and you'd be surprised at the speed you can accomplish things (just keep some water handy for those odd occasions). This would however slightly nerf your eligibility to do instances, but you'd make a great dps'ing pair.

Basically, the idea would be 1-39 elem, then 40-60ish enhance. Switch to your endgame spec whenever suits you best based on accumulating gear for it.

Just 1 more idea to add to your options. =)

Cheers

I would have your warrior friend go 2h fury for leveling and you go enhance until level 60ish.

At that point you can both respec to an "instance spec" and do a lot of leveling via instances.

Even as enhance you will still be able to solo-heal Azerothian instances as long as you carry a set of int gear around.
