Fighting style as a feral, or: How do you lure NPCs?Follow

Hi all,

I'm playing a feral druid and I'm currely level 19 (really looking forward to my cat form).

When I'm doing PvE and I need to get a NPC (which is 1-2 levels above mine) out of a group, I currently do the following:

1) Start with Faerie Fire to get the NPCs armor down.
2) Cast a Moonfire on the NPC.
3) Cast Entangling Roots (this will usually hold, even as the Moonfire applies its damage).
4) Cast Wrath until Entangling Roots are disenganged (or Mana is low).
5) Switch to bear to finish him off.

Ideally the NPC would first hit me after step 5 and if the NPC is really strong I might Bash him and heal myself during fighting.

This basically works really well and I enjoy the ranged attacks which will bring the NPCs health down already a bit before it hits me.

I now have basically three questions:
1) What do you think about the tactic described above?

2) How does this tactic compare to your fighting style in a similar situation (group of high level NPCs)? Do you also depend on the caster form to get a NPC out of a group or are there ranged attacks for the feral forms? I would love to hear your tactics for similar situations!

3) Which ranged attack of the Druid causes the least aggro? I noticed that characters using arrows (bows) were able to much more effectively get a NPC out of a group, apparently arrows have really low aggro / area of effect?

Many thanks,
Michael

It will change when you get cat (assuming you level as feral as I would guess most people do). At that point it will go:

Farie fire > Cat form > claw claw claw claw claw claw.. as you get higher the moves change, you start getting finishing moves worth a damn etc, but the basic premise is the same.

Maybe pop out and heal if you want, and then pull the next mob.

Again assuming you go feral, at some point you get furor, as well as feral faerie fire, then the game changes again. You can pull without losing your energy and so the fights move extremly quickly, you wont need to heal all that often (every 5-10 fights, if ever depending on mob lvl/difficulty), and so on.

Yes to using your ranged spells to pull at your level. Light 'em up til they get to you, then change to bear, just as you are.

When you get cat form, you'll sneak up on them instead when possible. But when they need to be pulled away from a crowd, you'll continue doing the same thing you're doing now.

If you're leveling feral, you'll get Feral Faerie Fire through a talent point. You can use that to pull without leaving form.

When you hit level 40, you'll get dire bear form, and pulling will largely become a waste of time - just run in and kill them all at once. :)

(edited for typo)

A better rotation is to use your highest damage spell first. Your first cast is basically an instant cast as the entire cast is out of combat.

If you pull this way you basically start the fight with the mob at 80% instead of 100%.

I would use wrath, roots (due to the travel time of wrath this hits just after the wrath hits), moonfire, wrath spam then bear.

I didn't notice this, but yeah. He's right. He's, like, always right.

Unless I already have furor, I always skip opening with a spell unless there's just no way to body pull the mob. Absolutely nothing is more frustrating than just sitting there in cat form waiting for your energy to start regening after shifing in from caster.

Echoing what's been said, use your longest spells first. That's an extra 3 seconds of cast time where the mob isn't beating on you or straining against roots.

QFT. Don't be like me and not realize until level 50 or so that feral faerie fire can be used to pull XD It's way easier than pulling the mobs off the healer after *they* pull...

Once you get kitty form (level 20), That's going to be your most effective way to kill single mobs. The big advantage to leveling feral and using cat form is that you can kill mobs quickly without using any mana, shift out to cast a few heals on yourself, then shift back to cat form and kill again. You'll be getting mana back the whole time you're in cat form, so by the time you need to heal again, you should have full or almost-full mana.
