So I understand that for a pet to gain loyalty you need to keep it happy as that keeps it in the state where it is gaining loyalty. My question is do pets gain loyalty in BGs and Arena, or only when they are out in PvE settings, be it a city, an instance, or out in the world fighting? I understand that per the sticky it claims experience gained helps with the loyalty, but the pet in question is already 69 so there isn't much experience to gain. And on that note, in BGs and Arena there is obviously no experience to gain. If anyone could shed some light on this subject I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I've read that anything granting honor in PvP also works. However I've little experience with that.

Problem with PVP is that it is a slow process as it seems every time you or your pet dies it makes it more unhappy. You need to have it the happiest it can be at all times and unfortunately people like to kill your pet. This may make it difficult to raise your happiness on your pet.

I have also noticed when running low level instances with a max loyalty pet it seems as if your pet gets "Bored" and becomes unhappy really easy even though the pet is fighting. It is doing easy work and becomes "Bored" as I call it.

*Edit* If your pet is lvl 69 or 70 it does seem to take longer to raise happiness on higher level pets than lower level pets. An example of this is my Wind Serpent on my main. Took until 70 to finally gain its final happiness. I tamed it at 65 I believe. However Just recently I tamed a Ghost Saber on my Lowbie BE alt hunter. Its loyalty reached max in 1 level. That's right, she had become my best friend by level 21.

This leads me to believe that they made it easier for low level pets to get loyalty to you as well due to the fact it is harder to train skills on a pet at level 20 vs 70 at the same loyalty. You just don't have enough points to do everything you can for that level range. or the fact that they may think the lower level pets will trust you sooner because

A.) Maybe they just got no choice?

B.) Due to the fact that the pet is weaker then it may depend on you more.

These are mearly hypothetical but seems like some of the only reasons for it to be this way.

Thanks for the responces guys. Yeah, I know my pet does die in PvP a lot, but I always feed him and keep em by my side for a little after we / I res him. And actually, he dinged a loyalty lvl in AV after I posted this question so I answered my own question, :oÞ. I guess I'll just need to spend some time grinding with him to hopefully get his loyalty up a bit faster. Thanks again for the responces.

No problem. Good luck with the grind. It always seems to take forever while BGing. I know it is completely possible for your pet to gain levels just by standing next to you all day. It is just real slow. It's a lot faster if you kill things.

There is some weird maths involved in pet loyalty , Mania at Petopia and others have been trying to work out what it is , i would assume battlegrounds give little if any loyalty gain , i know the higher level you and your pet are the longer it takes , and i know its not only experience gained that gives loyalty as quite often when i am with low level/loyalty pets in a town they will gain a level of loyalty , all you can do is keep the pet fed and happy .

i would love to know what the maths is in simple terms as quite often i have found that taming a low level pet like the level 3 boar i can get the pet up to my level before it is fully loyal , yet i have also seen that a close to my level pet can get fully loyal in what seems like far less real time play ?

I don't remember where i read it at, and i dont think it worked anyways, but supposedly in BG's is the best place to level your pet loyalty. I tried this out, but i never gained any loyalty. What i read stated that the bg's are a great place to level loyalty because everytime you die, your pet is revived with full happiness, which is true. However, I have found that at level 70, getting loyalty is a slow process anyways, so i dont know if it really works, i didnt have the patience to sit in a bg for hours, so i just leveled it while raiding.

Yeah I gave up on the BG loyalty leveling. It just doesn't seem functional enough for my own sanity. I go crazy trying to do something that just doesn't seem to work.

I have a bad habbit of wanting something out of what ever I am doing. So I grinded the crap out of the Orges in Nagrand. 80 more powder to go and I'll have my dark war talbuk. I looked at it that way instead of just seeing. I am still at X loyalty.

Makes it go by faster. In fact now I am grinding them for te powder and the netherweave for 16 slotters for all my toons. 9 down 21 to go. =S
