I pretty much admit the racials for an undead mage are sexy, even the blood elves have some better stats, but I really don't like either of them all that much.
I've never had a troll toon before and I really want to rock another PvE (light PvP)fire mage. So how bad would a troll mage be? Am I giving up too many stats from the other races to make it viable?
Thanks for any insight or horror stories :)

I love my troll. Never see them around. Most mages I see are undead or belfs.
Unless you're a top end PvPer or a min-max ultra-hardcore raider, it won't make enough of a difference for me to tell you that you need to pick something else.

I leveled and geared my troll mage. I <3 berzerker, esp when shammies are in my group. Occasional extra spell haste ftw. The regen.. meh... you won't notice it. Also, I hated the way my troll slouched, but... whatchagonnado?

Female trolls are in my humble opinion even uglier than the male trolls.
Casting animation for trolls is great though!

I can't play a female toon... I realize that 90% of the toons out there that are females aren't females irl. One of the funniest things that has happened is that I was in DM helping a guildy on my lock. 4 females & me, and I was saying "w00t! Party time... look at all the chicks". Then we started using voice chat and ... yeah, 1 girl, 4 guys. lol.
Rule #1 of the internet: Until you hear them over Vent, everyone is guy.
