How much +hit is too much? (Pre-Kara)Follow

So, my rogue is 70, and my question is this: At what number do I start looking at changing out gems/enchants (no enchants yet) for AP/Crit instead of +hit?

Currently I have 20.99% crit, +157 hit (and +5% hit from talents and +10 expertise from talents) and the low AP of 1177 (yes I know). I hit 70 about a week ago.

Armory:

Be gentle, heh.

I wouldn't change anything that'll drop your +hit... looks like your +hit and crit are a little above the minimum requirements for Kara. I'd start looking for AP now to bring that up to above 1500 though.

1500 is high for starting Kara.

If you can stay over 150 hit, 20% to crit, and get to 1200-1300 AP you should be fine for the first half of Kara, and all of Kara if your group is good.

You'll get some drops in Kara that will help the stats that need help, just focus on keeping 150 hit, 20% to crit, and getting as close to 1300 AP as you can.

^^^ Agreed with all the above. My AP is just over 1300, +hit 140 and crit % 26.5 with pve gear on. I was second to a shammy in damage thru the chess event, and we had 0 wipes with two kick *** pally healers, and two decently geared druid tanks. You should be fine if get a little more AP...dunno if it's best to gem AP or replace gear, the rest of the gurus here probably know more about that. Good luck in Kara, it's fun!

EDIT - Get the 34 AP and 16 +hit to your helm. Comes from scryer rep i think...theres also one from Cenarion...

The AP/Hit Head enchant is from Cenarion, Glyph of Ferocity.

Helm enchant is revered with CE, shoulder enchants from aldor/scryer. I'm istting at about 22% crit 200 hit and 1400 AP. I just sub for guilds who are missing someone for Kara, top damage meters every time. Well, except for the mage who came to get mongoose. 4/5 T5 > me.

180-200 is about right for those just entering Kara

If you take a Boomkin with you, you can probably get away with ~150, Imp. FF for the win.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am also using www.shadowpanther.net for my pre-kara gear/gem/enchant charts, so I have another question:

I'm grinding (ok, it's not a grind compared to pre-TBC) honor for the MH/OH S1 swords and since those are pretty high DPS swords compared with everything else, should I go ahead and go all out with enchants? Thanks.

Your base chance to miss a raid boss while dual wielding is 28% with auto-attack on both hands. Your base chance to miss a special attack is 9%. For each 15.77 hit rating you equip, you reduce your chance to miss by 1%. Thus we can calculate hit caps for auto-attack and special attacks:

Auto-attack, 0/5 Precision: 442
Auto-attack, 5/5 Precision: 363
Special, 0/5 Precision: 142
Special, 5/5 Precision: 64

Yes, go ahead and put Mongoose on both swords, they last you until T5 content from what I hear.

Hey Elwasto, you should probably make that a quote, or mention that it is directly copied from the Elitejerks Roguecraft 101 thread, wouldn't want you to get hammered for it or something.

It's also fairly common knowledge at this point and has been posted in numerous places, even if it did originate at Elitist Jerks.

Nobody's gonna flame him for providing useful information. At least I would hope they don't.

Well I give a rate up because it clearly answers original question- how much hit is too much? 364. Unless you're not combat, but we won't go there...
