No pet hunter?Follow

#1 Feb 18 2008 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
I just had a question for all of you hunters out there.

A while ago, we ran Slabs with this one hunter. Before we started, we all had asked the hunter if they were going to get their pet out. They then proceeded to say that they weren't specced for pets and that they do more damage without one out (apparently 6k+).

Is it normal to have no pet out with hunters? I mean, it was pretty weird to me, and even then, the hunter wasn't at the top of the damage charts with their so-called 6k crits.

Any input would be great.

Sounds like fool.
a Hunter without a pet is not at his best.

I would put that hunter on ignore and never ever group with them again. We are all "specced for pets" unless he just didn't do the quest at level 10, which if thats the case, it just reinforces my earlier statement. There is absolutely no way he could hope to do better damage without his pet no matter what he is specced.

That's what I thought. We all thought something was wrong at the beginning when she refused to take her pet out. Needless to say, we never even finished the run because she "lagged" badly.

Thanks for the responses =)

no matter where you are as a hunter, your pet is probably always at least 5% of your total dps.

And as a rogue, you wouldnt lets say.. 5% crit go to waste would you? ;P

i guess some dumb marks hunters think they dont need a pet but not having a pet out for ANY class is like a warrior saying they don't need plate armor for tanking and that they are fine with mail... all hunters should use any pet even if its a sporebat for crying out loud a pet does damage which helps in any situation really...

Point made by several already.

You never do more DPS without your pet, unless you spend shameless amounts of time picking it in and out of combat instead of mashing attack buttons.

A hunter without a pet is more like a huntard.

Or rather, not a hunter at all.

Having a pet is one of the major qualities of the hunter class. To me no pet seems wrong.

In addition to all of the above, just think about it logically. Take as an example a Hunter who has spent zero Talents on enhancing their Pet. And then assume that the Hunter fails completely at being able to manage their Pet. They never cast Mend Pet, or pull the Pet out of combat if it's getting killed and let it recover, and they are horribly slow about sending it at a new target after the first target has died.

That Hunter will still do more damage just sending in their Pet at the start of each combat and forgetting about it than the Hunter who doesn't even whistle it up and use it at all.

By the way, Trollbash, Æthien posed a question to you in a post further down the first page. It's called Hey Trollbash!, so I'm amazed you've missed it.

Sounds like a Huntard to me. We had a long discussion on this earlier and came to the conclusion that not having a pet out is VERY situation specific and should be explained to the group's satisfaction if there are questions on the situation.

Anyone saying they do more damage without a pet out is silly. At very least, they can keep the pet on follow and passive if they feel the pet is a distraction from the situation.

A hunter without a pet is only 2/3 of a hunter.

Lol slo, had that discussion earlier, sounds like it happened maybe a few hours ago.

Wasn't that like a month or so ago? Funny how the forum time seems so short, but real life time passes us by.

I took the time to look for it, had some pretty good back and forth going on that one :-P, so read it over if you would like

Edit: I'm assuming this is the discussion Slo is referring to, I could be wrong but I hope I'm not.

Good God, hitting on the damn MM hunters again :D

Naa, MM hunters generally speaking are not that dumb, I even have my pet out and he still does 1/5 overall, or 1/4 (cat) of what I do so every little bit helps :D

At least now we know why he hasn't switched to BM yet... he's got a thick skull and probably can't hear us anymore.

Good to see you again Caldone.

No, now I get in trouble for the things I do AND what the people under me do :)

And sorry, Never going BM, might go SV if I can ever get the gear before hand, I didn't mind being SV so much.

Thick skull is still kicking *** on the Damage Meters, and after the S3 gladiators stuff :) (first piece will be bought today)
