Threat GenerationFollow

I have a 42 Gnome Warrior. I have been using sword and board with all stances and always have rage issues ( I know, We all do) So I figure a 2H sword would create more rage along with more damage. Am I on the right track?

No. No, you're not. Not at all. Using a 2H and trying to tank will make you the warrior that everyone hates. Stick with your sword and board, and just learn to properly manage your rage. Rage starvation comes from two things: being over geared, or improperly managing your rage. Unless you're tanking things that are WAY below you (i.e.: Deadmines) you should be taking more than enough damage to have sufficient rage. I'd suggest reevaluating what you do while tanking. Are you using Thunderclap in multi-mob situations? Are you utilizing low rage/high threat abilities like revenge? Are you overusing Heroic Strike as a threat source when you don't have the rage for it (Heroic Strike eats a rage generating auto-attack, so it shouldn't be used unless you're burning excess rage)? I would wager your rage problems come from something like this, rather than the fact that you have to use a shield. Putting on a 2H will only cause your healer problems, causing more downtime from you draining their mana, as well as an increased chance of you getting killed.

NO.

Thanks for the reply. I will expand more. I am not tanking per se. I am leveling. I use the stances depending on how the fight goes and mobs involved. Usual rotation -> /Charge when I can else pull/attack HamStr, Sunder, Sunder, DShout, Sunder ... Hardly ever have the half bar of rage to use HS, Try to use shield bash when its up. Then hit execute for the kill. Only for 2 or more do I use Tclap/cleave combos. Also will hit bloodrage in most fights. So not sure what I am doing wrong, but sure I am wrong somehow. I am not overgeared, only 2 pieces of plate so far.

OK, this is just me but I never use a shield when soloing only when I am tanking an instance. Admittedly I am a DW Fury warrior so I never see the need for a shield. Having two weapons I never have a rage problem and I find that mobs don’t hang around too long once I start laying the smackdown. Do you find that mobs take forever to put down? I would suggest going for a 2-hander (if that’s what you have) or better yet join the DW fury club and watch your rage grow and grow (like bank interest but better 8-).

Im probably not going to be as acurate with this post as I would like since armory isn't working for me ATM.

There might be a few problems
1)If your not prot spec, Sword and Board is the wrong way to go. (most of the time)
2)your rotation.

I.E. Charge > Hamstring > Sunder > Sunder > Demo Shout > Sunder > Execute
With shield bash mixed in.

That in itself doesn't sound right to me, unless your fighting a lot of spellcasting mobs. Shield bash shouldn't be used unless your interrupting a spell. It just doesn't do enough damage to justify using for DPS. If you are prot, Id reccomend going DW Fury or MS (these are just guidelines btw)

For MS, this should be your rotation
Charge > MS > Hamstring > White hit > White Hit > MS > White Hit > Execute
(consider using Slam in this rotation instead of a white hit or two, but keep an eye on your rage and timing mod. Dont use 2 specials in a row if you mix in slam, otherwise you'll just be rage starved.)

For DW, its going to be similar.
Charge > HS > white hit > HS > white hit > Hamstring > HS > White hit > Execute
(DW gives you more rage potential since your hitting with 2 weapons instead of one. Remember, this is just a guideline for what you should be doing, since I can't see your armory profile.)

If your Prot, respec MS or DW fury. Prot is probably the slowest way to go leveling wise, IMO.

I am Arms 26/5/3

Willing to try other builds, at this level, I can still tank some if I do find a group. Will look at the options at home.

Ah, I read sword/board and automatically assumed tanking. You honestly shouldn't be using sword/board for leveling, especially not as arms. I was suggest 2H fury or DW fury for leveling, but if you're going arms, yes, you should most definitely strap a 2H weapon on and utilize the weapon that the talent tree is designed for. Rage gen while soloing with a 1H and a shield is always slow.

THERE'S the problem! Are you prot spec or something? When killing mobs, generally, you don't need to do that...Don't need to sunder it up and put demo shout. You kill it too fast for all that to be useful, haha. What you should do is Charge, and, since you have a 1h, just spam h.strike I guess. What spec are you? It would help to know, lol. But yeah, hope this helps.

Wow, apparently I typed this too slow, everyone else replied already. :/

Oh, for what it's worth, avoid blood rage when possible. It's a good ability for when you're getting heals. I pop it at the start of most pulls I make while tanking. However, in terms of soloing, it's actually very inefficient in terms of causing downtime. You end up having to eat/bandage a lot more as a result of it.

If you're playing alliance, not to mention GNOME, that's not going to happen in a hurry ;)
