Suggestions for LvL mage PvP Twink?Follow

#1 Feb 17 2008 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
I am thinking of rolling a new Mage. Already have a LvL 19 ShadowPriest that kicks butt in WSG, and I've played Hunter, Druid, Lock, and warrior.
Ive read about every forum out there but cant seem to get the advised Im looking for.
For LvL 19 PvP (WSG) what should I spend my talent points in. I know is a difficult decision since I only get 10. I also know that Im gonna die quicker than an Orphan child in a 3rd world country, but... do I split 5/5 fire/Ice? do I go all Fire to get the extended ranged and more DPS? MOst people recommend Ice for PvP but Im not sure at level 19 is really that great? All suggestions welcome.

One last question is if Gift of Naaru is helpful enough to roll a draenei vs a Human. (I dont like gnomes, so Its either a Draenei or human)

minimum level for a mage twink would be 29 imo, you don't don't learn anything of value until past 20.

Yes, I would recomend Draenei. Gift of the Naaru isn't all that good at 70 but at a level like 19 its spectacular.

As far as spec's go how about this for a goofy one.

5/5 improved arcane missles, 1 arcane focus, 2 wand spec, 2 frost warding

wand spec...? frost ward...?, well at 19 frost armor is actually quite a bit of plus armor, and as far as wand spec, wands can be very nice dps at that level and after spamming AM runs you dry, you'll still kill plenty with this.

39 frost mage twink. Buy swift pots and run flags better than droods : P

aaaagh.. I rolled a human mage. Wasnt familiar enough with the draenei gift of naru. Oh well.... at least she is "Pretty" LOL
Im still split wether putting the 1st 5 points in Impact (so I get stun chance with my fireballs) or arcane so i can get the wand talents (Grrrr)

From experience I can tell you that you won't get off too many fireballs in WSG at 19. You may have a very tough time unless you either spec improved arcane missiles, or focus on instants like fire blast. The dead zone elimination will hurt as well :(

Agree with Anobix. Too many goodies at 20 to twink at 19.

Still, if 19 is your bag, arcane seems like your best bet. Impact is the only first-tier talent worth anything PvP-wise in fire/ice (and even that is questionable since you don't yet have Molten Armor), but Imp AM trumps that bigtime.

edit: b/c I always edit my posts 2 seconds after I post. whuduvit? ;)

The druid buys swift pots and runs it better than a frostmage... There is a reason pots isnt looked well upon in bg's.
Prep rogue with cooldowns still does is faster.

OP:
I wouldnt go for arcane talents, dosnt give any damage increase besides the wand, which imo should be last resort.

Fire obviously gives the most damage, Imp fireball seems to be the way to go, more damage, also because this is your main source of damage, along with fireblast (no scorch yet). Im not sure how high crit chance mages get in this bracket, but i dont think ignite is worth going for. Flame throwing and imp fireblast would be my choice.

Frost is nice aswell... guess it could save you alot against all the rogues!
5/5 imp frostbolt (increased damage) 3/3 frostbite. not so sure about the last 2 points, either imp frost nova or permafrost... Im leaning towards permafrost, because getting chilled when hitting you would be kinda like getting novaed.

Stay off arcane and splitting the talents up between fire/frost imo.
My 5 cents.

Regardless what you pick, always have rank 1 frostbolt keybinded! :)

Edit: Havent twinked at 19 as mage, but if you can get fireballs of at higher lvls, why not at 19? :P

Go lvl 49.
At that point you can pack quite some +damage gear.
Had a mage in wsg the other day, who was hitting me for ~1500 with his fireball.
And I'm lvl 49 too....
Basically 2-shotting every ally who crossed him.

Most players won't have more then 3k hp, and if they do they have barely more hp.
Just a quick fireblast + blastwave/CoC and he's dead.

Yeah! I agree, 49 is kinda like the pre TBC pvp bracket atm, and it is lots of fun! This bracket is pretty balanced regarding class', and with mounts it makes the game more fast paced and requires more teamwork. Almost like 70, but resilience dosnt kill the fun of several specs :D

Got a twinked gnome mage in that bracket myself with gear for both fire and frost, im fire spec'ed atm. Playing in the rampage battlegroup (EU) where there is a nice twink activity.

Another mage in my battlegroup just posted a Screen shot of a 3k+ crit with a fireball :O (full arcane spec) He has less than 2k hp, so he really gives meaning to the glasscanon term.

Not what OP was asking about, but if you alrdy have several lvl 19 twinks, try out a higher bracket. Just a thought :)

That's interesting... at lvl 19 you'll get killed. I had a 19 rogue and he didn't rely on a lot of subtlty... just spamming Sinister Strike over and over... and eating up clothies pretty good. Even the so-called-twink mages at that level die quickly.
