help grinding during early levelsFollow

well, after getting my mage to about 13, i'm sick of doing quests, i've done so many for other characters that i can't stand to do anymore.

now, i'm alliance, and i've looked around, but no guide seems to give a good example of where mages should grind in the 10-20 levels, it's always right after for AOE grinding.

i'm trying to do it in lock modan, but i keep getting overrun by mobs, and if i don't try group, i just don't get enough exp to make ends meet.

anyone got any tips?

BTW, I'm going frost speced, so if that helps, there's the info.

My frost specced mage absolutely sucked until he picked up enough talents to start becomming effective. I think around level 24 he had enough talents to reliably kill things efficiently.

I would suggest going for 5/5 Improved Frostbolt to begin with, then picking up 2/2 Improved Frost Nova, then 3/3 Frostbite. Afterwards, go for 5/5 Ice Shards. That puts you up to level 24. Up to level 29, do Shatter. I would do 3/3 Piercing Ice straight after. That's the basic damage talents to set you up for solo grinding. AOE grinding doesn't become possible until some later talents become available though. There are plenty of guides on the necessary talents for AOE grinding around.

As for where to hunt... Honestly, quests are the way to go for me, though I will do some grinding in beneficial places on characters that need something in a certain area, like leather/cloth/ore so I pick a spot for those that I can also gain experience from the creatures nearby.

Normally my order of zones for alliance is this, for humans... Newbie area, Elwynn, all quests up to level 15 in Westfall, then all quests in western half of Loch Modan, then all the rest of Westfall, then the rest of Loch Modan, then a Deadmines run or two for loot and the quests. Afterwards I usually go to Redridge Mountains (at around level 21-22) and do all the quests before I leave, then Duskwood. After that you have a few options and can pick the logical places to progress to, or just follow yours quests.

I agree with Khal. I don't see much point in trying to grind with almost any class at level 13. It's going to be painful, and quests will level you so much faster.

I've had a lot of alts so I feel your pain with being sick of the quests. Maybe focus on the zone you've leveled up in least? So if you're sick of Loch Modan, maybe go to Westfall or Darkshore or Azuremyst/Bloodmyst?

I personally prefer to bounce around at low levels. I go between knocking down a few green quests in Elwynn/Westfall, then Loch Modan, then Darkshore, not wasting time with red quests anyplace. Even with travel time, I've always found that as long as I plan efficiently it's way faster leveling.

One other suggestion: maybe you can make questing more interesting if you have another goal, like rep grinding for a cross-faction mount or leveling a profession.
