Hi, I am currently using herbalism and mining as my professions. My plan was to use these two professions until I purchase my epic flying mount because they are so lucrative.

After that though, I wanted to drop these two professions and pick to more that are going to be helpful to me at 70. I was planning on switching to tailoring and alchemy. My question is, what is the most helpful professions for a mage that is well into level 70 game content?

Tailoring remains useful with the nifty BoE patterns(BoP items) that drop in T5/T6 raids. Enchanting is definitely useful for the 24 spell damage ring enchants. Jewelcrafting is also nice for the special BoP gems you can make(that I wish weren't unique-equipped).

As a Mage, Alchemy would be a neat idea. As would, like the above poster stated, Enchanting. Tailoring would be good, but at level 70, its going to take you a while of running around and farming to buy matts to boost your level.

I was going to take on Tailoring, but I ended up having a chat with a guildy who already had it Maxxed out, and he just made all the gear I wanted.

except for spellfire/frozen shadoweave amirite?

If you plan on doing any endgame raiding I recommend taking tailoring, by doing that you can have 3-5 epics as soon as you hit 70 and be better geared than most classes going into kara and gruuls.

I personally have herbalism + tailoring because I need to farm quite a bit for the mats for the potions/flasks.

I had herbs and alchemy initially as I liked the idea of making potions, especially as this too can make you money as potions are needed by most ppl who raid etc... However taking Alchemy without herbalism is going to cripple you as you'll be forced to buy all your mats from the AH.

I dropped Alchemy for Tailoring as you just cant justify nnot going for the Spellfire and spellstrike sets. As Poldaran stated these are BoP so you wont be able to get someone else to make these for you even if you have the mats for them.

One other nice thing about having Herbs as your other profession is that sometimes motes of life drop which are handy because even if you dont use them, you can trade/sell them in the Ah for other motes/primals that you WILL need for Trailoring...

Have to agree with the above posters - tailoring and herbalism was a good combination. Never really made a cent from tailoring until I hit 375, but herbalism helped me buy my first epic mount and regular flyer. On my server you'd be surprised the prices people pay for some herbs. I don't know whether it's laziness on their part or a legitimate difficulty in obtaining X herb, but there was always a market.

You should know, though, that if you don't gradually build up tailoring, power leveling it will be very expensive, time consuming, and frustrating.
