At what level difference must something be replaced? Meaning Gear is X levels below your current level. (aka - Lvl 55 carrying a lvl 45 staff)

I need to get a new Necklace (Cause i'm not spec'd fire anymore) and the wrists are weak, but honestly - I'm not finding better gear at the AH and instances are really not dropping the pieces I need.... I have 2 great sets of gloves....
At what point should you plain and simply have to replace something...

Most of the time I shoot to replace items that are about 8-10 levels below my current level.
If you find something better, replace it. Level doesn't matter.
Trust me, between quests and instances, you WILL find stuff. However, right now just concentrate on those last 3 levels. Once you hit Outland, you'll replace your entire gear set in no time at all.
(ex. about 5-10 minutes into Outland you get the Staff of Twin Worlds)
