Why I play ShamanFollow

#1 Feb 14 2008 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
After almost 2 years of playing and never really levelling any character beyond 35 I decided it was time to sit down and really think about the classes and which one truly was the one for me.
Up until this point i was a serial class roller. I would play a class to about 20 get bored and delete the toon and start something else(don’t ask me why I deleted them its a personality flaw:))
I would change my mind like my underwear (daily-before you smart ***** chime in!).
I have levelled all classes to at least 15 and many (paladin, mage, warrior, hunter and shaman) I have levelled more than once.
So I went and thought about all the classes and what it was that turned me away-

Mage- Love casting spells and fireballing the crap out of things but in the end I got frustrated with the lack of melee ability. When things go to ***** I like to be able to fight my way out of corners if necessary and the mages abilities that let you do this are appealing to me.

Priest- enjoyable and i like the healing but again too fragile

Warlock- Only ever played one and didn’t enjoy it for some reason. I think it’s the race choices......I find myself liking Draenai and Tauren....

Warrior- fun to play but I like a little magic ....plus the early levels are a little boring as a warrior i find.....

Paladin- my second choice has everything I want except a ranged attack. Always liked to play Clerics in my AD and D days and I do have a hammer fetish! Not being to able to pull from distance while soloing is the main gripe I have with pallies.

Rogue- Not into the whole way they play. They don’t do it for me..Dont like sneaking up I like to get stuck in!

Druid- close behind the paladin. One thing that held me back was the limited race choice. Don’t like Night Elves. As I mainly play Alliance this is a big problem but i do have a low level Tauren Druid I sometimes play for a change

Hunter- really like this class but don’t think I would enjoy them at endgame. This would be my choice if I was going to solo the whole game. but i like to do Instances.

So to the Shaman, they have everything I like, a bit casting, the ability to heal themselves and some good dps ability. I love the whole idea of totems and as Draenei is my favourite race its not a hard choice. So now I am levelling my main Wolflord, Draenai shaman and Bullrok. Tauren shaman. Plus I get to further my hammer fetish.
the Shaman seems to suit my playstyle...I open up with some spells then get stuck in with the odd shock when cooldown is up.....Ghostwolf is great for the travelling.....quite simply i really enoy the class and while I havent got to endgame yet as an almots pure PVE player I dont think I will be disappointed with my Shammy...the only problem could be raids at endgame....I like Enhance and would love to stay as one.....I am in a good guild who are willing for me to play my toon anyway i like so this prolly wont be a problem but who can say with guild dynamics where they will be when i am 70 (or maybe 80 by then, depends when WOTLK is out)

Just thought i would share so all those serial class players know there are others like them!

i started out like you for about the first 4 months i played. i made a orc hunter to level 11 changed server so i could play with my friends, made a dwarf warrior to 29 (enjoyed the PvP[now lvl 43]) then made a Gnome Mage to about level 40 something(decided i didn't like being squishy coming from being a warrior[now level 52]) next i made my rogue leveled him all the way to 70, got to 70 and decided i hated getting owned in teh BG's and no one is ever LF rogue Kara, ZA etc. so i made a shaman. don't ask me why, i personally think i shoulda made a druid instead but whatever. i do however find my shaman to be very very addictive. he is enhancement i've tried all the specs. i do enjoy healing instances as resto, and i enjoyed elemental, i just find enhancement the best to quest as and the best DPS in dungeons. at 70 i do plan to be either ele or resto though mainly because of damned DPS warriors and ret pallies. i have yet to see LF melee DPS for any dungeon or raid so i'm being a caster. and it also seems easier to be a caster as you're not right in the face of a giant magtheridon and can't see what the hell is going on haha. my shaman is currently 63 and that is my WoW story!

Note: This all happened over the course of a year and there are also some other lowbies i created that were not mentioned(all lower than 35)

Well, Mjolnir sounds exactly like me in many ways. I havent been playing for 2 years (1.3 years for me). But i did play everything several times. Clothies were to squishy, lock just doesnt do it for me, rogue got pretty annoying, Paladin is great but i didnt like not having range, and I didn't do very much damage (currently casually leveling a paladin again). Warrior was kind of bleh..I like a little magic. Hunter was boring because i like to be in groups for alot of stuff. Shaman was just right..I prefer something a little more PvP friendly but i find that if i stick with a paladin i do decently.

I'm currently leveling as Enhancement, and i plan on switching over to Resto to heal for my guild endgame, unless they let me do whatever i want. Shaman's little perks have saved me from many a ganking. Far sight/Sentry totem saved me and another shaman from gankage by level 70's (we were ganking their lowbie guildies...so they called in backup). Saw them coming so we ran. And where did we run, why off the shores of tanaris of course. Water walking and far sight saved us. I can always get an instance aswell, simply by having a set of healing gear. The life if a shaman is a fun one. Just dont concentrate too much on PvP.
