What was blizzards plan?Follow

#1 Feb 14 2008 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
I have always wanted to know what blizzards plan was for mages, not what they tell us, but their actual plan.

Were we supposed to be just a general caster who can do a little of everything but not be the best at one? or what..

I'm mainly bringing this up because I have noticed quite a lot lately that my dps in raids is more and more limited as I get more gear, and everyone else gets more gear. When I first entered ssc/tk I was num1 damage easy over everyone else by far, now, as we are all getting gear the rogues, dps warriors, and warlocks are passing me. Damn warlocks, the best one in our guild is topping dps by such a large amount over everyone else.

I have a few problems, one, why oh why doesnt our damage scale with gear like a rogues or warriors, or even warlocks? I know it does scale but where I am now, im sure is where I will be at end game. We are now in hyjal and BT (just 2 bosses into hyjal), just starting out and I am 2/48/11 (after such a long time of being arcane) with 1050 spell damage, 34% crit, and my maxed 164 hit. (just self buffed) I can keep a good steady 1100-1200 dps on most fights, but, tho my dps is usually top 3, my overall damage is most of the time around 7-9 in the raids, and top damage of our mages.

I just want to QQ I guess, but overall ranged I always figured mages were posta be the most burst damage fire wise, and warlocks were posta be dotters + aoers, and shadow priests are a mana battery, but when you look at it. Warlocks are now shadowbolt spam and do more damage then mages, and shadow preists are pretty damn close too, tho usually dont beat me but still, close hurts lol. I just wonder if that was blizzards overall plan, for warlocks to be shadowbolters, and mages to use their best pve spec and still not able to come even close to warlocks on damage.

I want our class to be overpowered ;) sheeps, tho can be done in combat heal... our aoe is so mana ineffeciant it hurts to use it. our damage lacks compaired to the other classes, all I can say is... Want a mana biscut? which you can buy at your nearest vender :(

does anyone else feel this way? or do you guys think its completely even, and I just want too much out of a mage?

I feel exactly the same way you do. Though I am no where close to you in progression on my mage, it'd just rediculous how much better everyone elsegets whilewe stay pretty much the same. Plus our extremely low hp, complete lack of stats besides +dmg on most crafted gear, and with that comes a huge drop in mana and hp as you gear up at least through spellfire/spellstrike gear. Upgrading to my crafted sets I went from over 11k mana to about 9.5k and i only have2 peices.

I'm really hoping we get some great upgrades in an upcoming patch or at worst WotLK. or i might just leave the mage in the dust, they are simply becoming more and more obsolete, more and more un needed and easily replaced by another class that can out dps us, out live us,and bring more utility to the raid.

"Want a mana buscuit?"

I hate it when cases of "poor wittle me" set in around here. Sure, I'd love more raw power, but we're doing fine.

While we are a little bit gimped damage-wise as compared to other classes, I think you're missing a lot of other things mages have to offer.

For one, our CC is one of the best in the game. We can keep a mob incapacitated for as long as you so desire. We add a ton of control to any group, and that extra mob can be the difference between progressing or wiping.

Also, we can get out of a lot of "Oh ****!" situations, now more than ever thanks to standard IB. Moroes Garrotes you? IB out of it. Maiden Holy Fires you? IB out of it. Illhoof feels like sacrificing you? IB out of it. Every time I get nailed with one of these, it's like a little break for the healer. He doesn't have to waste any mana keeping me up. Also, blink gets us out of numerous situations where we are rooted/stunned (like Vashj's Entangling move).

Then there's the standard stuff, like tables and portals, which make things *extremely* convenient for the rest of the members in the raid.

ON TOP OF THAT, we throw out some pretty decent DPS. In my raids, I'm always in the top 5.

Mages offer a bunch of utility, which is why people group with us in the first place.

So QQ as much as ya want about other classes topping us, I'll stick with my mage thank you very much. I love the challenge of playing one, and watching big numbers pop on my screen

*note: Warlocks are Mages on easymode.

Blizzard's Plan? Have a laugh mate!

This is what they do!

They pick a class before each patch. They role a dice. 1-3 is a nerf, 4-6 is buff. We just keep hitting low numbers. As do Shamans.

I rekon the locks are cheating some how?

Anyways, its not too bad. Mages are still an assett in PvE content. Best CC in the game. Good DPS. MANA Biscuits FTW.

And in PVP and well played Mage can pWn all! Just need some Ub3r L33T Skillz0rs!

Locks can get good DPS as they simply DOT everything and then spam Shadow Bolt. Rogues dont rely on Mana, which is why they have a constant high sustained damage output. We still have the greatest burst damage in the game. If they Nerf that..then complain.

Loaded dice. I knew it.

Really though, locks get nerfed a lot too but fear is just op. Shorten the time on it, increase your resists to it and it still doesn't matter. Fear/dot rocks. (don't get me wrong, not crying about it...this is just what I've seen)

I only wish that SOC wasn't so overpowered of an AoE.

Just started MH this week (woot one that time for Kael down!) and it was seriously OP, between just mana tapping and blowing SOC on the AoE pulls (which virtually all of them are that I have seen) it is pretty bad.
