Duelling as a priestFollow

I am a newbie holy priest(lvl18) and admit that I don't duel much with any of my toons. So when a same lvl druid challenged me to a duel, I almost turned it down but accepted anyway. He turned into bear form and started to rip into me, so I used primal scream, healed and wanded...suddenely all hell broke loose in whispers calling me lame and a cheat...

Any tips on how a priest should behave in duels would be appreciated ... I wasn't trying to **** him off, I was just using my abilities.

So is there a duelling ettiquette to using shields, heals and fear?

Thanks :D

I see no problem there. You did fine. You can and should use every tool in your bag. You can read the Duel Etiquette on WoWWiki.

You've deafeated him right? A mighty bear defeated by a squishy priest! Ha ha ha!

Yeah, you've totally broken their golden rule "any one who beats me is a cheat i can't lose I R UBER1337SKILLZXMADDPS1337!1!!"

No you did nothing wrong, you used an ability that you had same as he did. I've had multiple people tell me not to use PS or that i can't heal (a priest not allowed to heal?) in which I respond that they can't use *insert important ability here*

As a shadow priest, especially lower levels you have a limited amount of abilities to use and since Mind Flay is channeled there is no way to use it without a shield or PS, in fact i feel like the reason for PS is to Mind Flay.

Really now, imagine telling a Rogue he can't sap or vanish, it's madness! Not to mention you'll get laughed right out the door so to speak.

And one more thing!
It's my belief that the goal of battle is to win, and that your opponent deserves that you go all out without holding back. To achieve the goal of winning then use all of your abilities/trinkets/food/pots available. All people have equal opportunity to get/use items so unless you define the rules of engagement before hand than assume anything goes.

<Druid is ignoring you>

I did go on and win against a lvl 20 hunter....and yes I did primal scream his pet off me...hehehe

something similar happened to me the other day, when i was leveling my 15 priest...

I was questing, when a rouge challenged me. even though priests generally get torn apart by rouges, I accepted. He vanished, so immediately started running around.

after I beat him (lol~), he called me a cheater, an idiot and other things that I can't remember because he couldn't catch me.

I guess it really wounds the pride to be killed by a priest.

generally the only rule people use when dueling is no health/mana pots. However if you both agree to use them then there's no problem with that. If it's random world pvp (i.e. oppsite faction attacks you) then you should use EVERYTHING to stay alive.

It makes the victory even sweeter when they blow 30-minute cooldowns and still lose.

So I guess priests are seen as a bit of a push over when it comes to duelling?

I see now why he may have been getting his pants/knickers in a twist :D

In a duel you can use any ability that you have. If that makes you win and the opponent loser starts crying and calling you a cheater, he is just a jerk. Nobody can force you not to use any legit abilities.
Any class should be able, if well played, to defeat any other class.

Well, it's generally not accepted to blow 30-minutes cooldowns and stuff in a duel, like Elemental Totems or Retaliation.

Primal Scream? You mean Psychic Scream?

I usually save it for when I get low on HP. Scream -> Bubble -> Flash Heals -> Renew -> Shadowform -> Consume Magic(When Renew gets down to it's last few seconds) -> Mind Flay spam.

Nothing wrong with using it. It's really the only thing you have to stall with when your bubble isn't ready, or if you need to cure yourself and you fear you won't get your heal off uninterrupted.

Not accepted? Yes, it is not accepted by the duelist who lost because of it. It is still legit and both parties should be able to use EVERY ability they want/can. Cooldowns are also part of that as are mana/health pots and elixers. Use whatever you use in normal PvP. It will not grant you honor in a duel, but if winning makes you feel good, you are willing to waist a pot/cooldown on that.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that'll complain of you cheating when they lose. That's the way it is. They're whining babies that can't handle the fact that other people know how to play their class.

Good job to you in handling the druid. =)

Dueling as a disc prist at level 70 i can beat most classes besides warlocks. Melee classes are a joke and you can oom a huntard and mage fast as hell.

Fighting melee L2 KITE. jKill your targets with SWP. Bubble keep renew and prayer of mending up and PS when needed.

Range los heavy attaks and mana burn. :)

GG the end

funneist priest fight i think iv seen is a SP gettin beat by a resto druid

priest shadow burned druid down to 10% then the priest ran out of mana lol

then the druid meleed the priest to 0 hp

at low level thought there is nothing to do as a priest in a duel other than bubble, SP, SWP, and wand.

i do try not to heal but if its needed ofc i will do it.

Agoge, got any tips for us. I'm leveling a second priest as disc / holy just so I can pvp ppl. My first priest is shadow and she doesn't do to well, once i get ganged up on.

Also have you seen the videos "Useless Tricks" by Jeck of burning blade. He goes thru some interesting fights talking about diff abilities one can use to defeat others. He kills a hunter in one of them, but I'm not sure how he did it. I think his shield and pain dot had a lot to do with it, but am not sure.

You did the right thing. Hell on my Pali I've blown my 60 min CD on a duel just to shut some snot nosed kid up who said he could beat me because he had the class upperhand.

I showed him. Wasted a CD but meh... How often do you think about using it and are able to anyway... ;p

*EDIT* Consider it this way...

You are Alliance, He is horde... or vice versa. You either kill him or he kills you. Do what you would do in a fight against the real enemy to win. There is no Taboo. Honestly I've had to bubble bandage on my pali as well.

I also use Psychic scream/ SW:P/ Mind blast/ mind flay on the running fool on my priest. I am going to win my duel if I have any hope of it.
