Speccing QuestionFollow

#1 Feb 13 2008 at 10:38 PM Rating: Decent
I recently dinged to 70 a few days ago and I've been trying to figure out a spec that would work for my purposes.

I've searched around on the internet, both Allakhazam and other sites but I haven't really found anything that suits me in terms of survivability and damage output. What I'm really looking for is moderate durability with moderately high dps, so that I can DPS comfortably in any situation and not be so worried about getting smacked.

I leveled primarly as affliction, and from about 55-70 switched between various demonology, destruction, and other hybrid builds. I've fallen in love with destro, so much so that I'm reluctant to leave it. I've topped the DPS charts almost constantly in almost any situation (Dungeons, Raids, BGs) but an issue I've always had is survivability. Understandably I'm a squishy so I'm not made to take a beating but I'm still seeking a hybrid build that's similar to SL/SL, but sacrifices the extreme survivability for something that leans more towards DPS...maybe a 0/34/27 spec? I'm curious as to if this is a viable option as a build, and if so, if any of you have any advice on how exactly I should make it. Like I said, I much prefer destro over affliction (I've considered rolling a mage, but then I realized that in comparison mages suck :P) so this is why I'm not just respeccing to the standard SL/SL build.

Alright, any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Thank You

Well, I think your idea with a Hybrid Demo/Destro will probably get the job done. It really kinda depends on if it's for PvP, Farming or Raiding. I would assume if your worried about getting hit it's either PvP or Farming, in which case I can think of 2 things I would try.

The first invloves the Felguard, which some people even Raid with, so this could make a decent Raiding build also:

Gives you Soul Link, so there's your damage mitigation, only you don't have Siphon Life to keep your health up which is what makes SL/SL so popular. You do however get a lot of the damage boosting talents out of both the Demo and Destro trees, so you lose some of the survivability to get some more damage, which is what you want.

Second option I would test without the Felguard:

Probably use the Imp here for Sta buff, and still have Soul Link, also get Ruin to increase your DPS and a little in the Affliction tree for Insta-cast Corr and a slightly boosted Drains and Life Tap.

I have not done either of these, and they may need alittle tweaking, but I would try them out and see if they give you what you want.

You make it sound like it is not viable...raiding with felguard, is really kick-***, but your Felguard build is pretty odd. Actually most parts of your build is designed for arena, except that you do not skill into the felguard, but
rather use the felhunter and spend the points abit different and is only advisable if you got shedloads of resilience to start with.
Than the build would look like this:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IqZbxczIizzLsZxx0tr0z

In case you own 2 t5-pieces, you can switch to a Felguard-specc.
The specc provides you with very good surviveability, great dmg
and very handy in many pvp situations.

The Felguardspecc is not as good as sl/sl for 2v2 or 3v3 arena, but
is a great in 5v5 arenagames.

The universal Felguard spec looks like this:

if you on the other side, do not have 2 t5-pieces, i would
recommend you to go deep affliction, which will provide very decent
overallperformance in almost every situation (solo/pvp/pve)

this is a general all-purpose deep affliction specc (since i cannot see you armory i am not sure if your +spellhit is close to max):
edit(somehow missed the dak pact thing^^, thanks lathais)

Here's my armory link again:

Thanks for the two builds...I'm definitely going to check them out.

I decided to go with the first one you offered, but tweaked it and instead of putting a point into felguard put it into ruin instead so that it looks like this:

I'm about to run shadow labs so I'll leave feedback on how I do.

you should definitly stick with the deep afflictionbuild i posted and get your tailoring up as fast as possible and get yourself the Frozen Shadowweave set.

I don't like affliction nearly as much as destro.

And yeah I realize I need to get my tailoring up. I've just never bothered with it.

Just an update. I've ran several instances with the spec I spoke about and I've had about 40% of the damage on the charts all for me. I like this spec...a lot haha.

Sorry if it sounded like I was putting your raid style down, I was not intending too. If I was I would have flat out said you can't use this for raiding though. The fact that I mentioned some people use it means that I am sure it is viable, I just havn't tested it out.

Second, how is my build odd? It wasn't based on raiding alone, as if he is worried about getting hit, he must be doing things other than raiding. So I took Imp. Health Funnel, so when the big guy gets hit, he can keep it alive if farming, and Demonic Resilience for a little extra protection against crits in PvP. So yours looks odd to me for a non-raidin build.

Also, your "general all-purpose deep affliction spec" is missing one very important general all-purpose affliction talent. Dark Pact. A UA build w/o Dark Pact? WTF Oaken?

I might get later into your build with felguard, right now i am finishing 2 new
videos =)) one "tanking leotheras" and the other one humiliating destro-locks in a tank and spank fight.

I don't want to get into it with you, I was just pointing out that my build was not primarily raid based, while yours is.

And seriously, what idiot that takes UA doesn't take Dark Pact? Just saying, if your gonna bother correcting someone, at least make sure you are correcting the right information, this wasn't a rading thread, yet you've brought more raid talk into it with "tanking leotheras" and then you go and post about a build you obviously know nothing about.

I agree, Demo in raiding is perfectly viable, but it's not my playstyle, and not what this thread was about, so take your gloating about raiding with felguard somewhere else.

didn´t know you little dip had such a bad day.

yes i didn´t pic dark pact that was a mistake,
and i bet every other poster knows that it was
not intentionally i did not specc into it the first
time.

Now thread opener asked for a build which is not squishy and
still has a decent dmg-output. i posted your Felguard build isn´t
thought through and i wonder what you´ve been smoking while spending
talentpoints into the second build.
What idiot, having seen his armory spends 21 points
into the destruction-tree.

not just a bad day, a horrible week, but that's beside the point. I just hate it when people put me down, and then correct me with bad information. If you wanted to point out that The destro build won't work with his current gear fine. Yes, I probably should have stated I can't see the armory at work all the time, so I hadn't looked at it and was just giving builds based on the info he provided, and he said he liked Destro.

ah well nevermind.
hope your weekend is getting better.

i would adivse him going deep afflcition-multi-purpose with his current gear, it´s the best balance between solo/pve/pvp.
