Is it still worth getting all the mats and doing the quests? I saw a prot pally using it last night in heroic ramps and its a wicked blade. I just don't know if I can convince the guildies to go to mc/bwl.

If you don't have access to any BC raids, then sure. Pretty much every tanking epic at 70 is better than the thunderfury though.

It looks...orange.

Other than that all I can say is that you'll get to OL and realise how much of a wasted effort it was. I was feeling spoilt when awesome purple shoulders dropped in BRD, then did the first instance in BC and got pauldrons that shove my purple up against the wall and violate it unceasingly.

But finding a serious Molten Core run...these days? Not possible. You see, even in the unlikely event that you get any end-gamers willing to do a raid that will benefit only you...MC is pretty hard, especially for 70s who forget that raid means "raid." You can't just roll through with a dozen 70s and expect it to be like giving your alt a Cath run.

You'll go through all that trouble making your leet sword and then it'll be in the bank by the time you hit 70.

The advantage of Thunderfury is that you can get by with very little +Spell Damage using it. Most of it would have been coming from your weapon anyway, so there isn't really much left to replace with more useful stats on the rest of your gear.

I'd rather use it than most level 70 weapons available, but the huge time and material investment can be a pain. Honestly.. it takes 200 days of Alchemist transmutes, and even if you were running MC every week during that time you couldn't feel confident that you'd get both halves to drop. The few level 70 weapons that I'd rather pick take a substantially smaller time investment to obtain.

Still.. I like quest-Legendaries. Drop Legendaries just don't feel right.

Edit: This is all of course for keeping aggro on things... If you're looking for a blade to do DAMAGE then god... there a bagazillion level 70 weapons that would outpace this.

Invisusira a Paladin tank still uses a Thunderfury. Seen some wicked videos of that Paladin in BC content tanking. Only spell damage he/she has are ring enchants (last time I looked at least), which comes out to I think 24? Anyways, for a Paladin I'd say Thunderfury is still a great tank weapon, but if you don't have it, it's not worth the effort anymore despite how good it would be. Starting now, you'd probably get it by the time WotLK comes out, and by then it should hopefully be replaceable.

Still, if it were possible I'd like to have it, cause it is a wicked looking sword.

Actually Invisusira pretty much only uses it for solo content or after having a significant threat lead in 5-mans. It's only real benefit to a paladin, the mitigation proc, is easily replaced by having a warrior in the raid group thunderclapping. And don't take my word for it, take hers

If you're getting it to show off, then by all means, thunderfury is still 100% worth it. Everyone notices it. However, as a tanking weapon, no, it's not worth it.

I stand corrected :) All I knew was the videos which I guess must have been made with the "show off" purpose in mind ;)
