I was LFG WC on my paladin and got a whisper asking what spec I was. I told the guy I was ret and basically told that they didnt have any room for me. Thing is I can still heal ok especially at the lower levels and I need to spec ret for increased DPS so I can level.

Was this guy being unreasonable or should I consider respecing? Smiley: confused

you dont need to be holy to MH an instance until well into the outlands. You do need some healing oriented gear though. If you are decked in str/sta gear i wouldn't take you to heal.

I would take you for DPS at that level though for sure. lol. Pally dps at those levels in just insane.

I leveled as a ret until the low 40's. I tanked the deadmines and healed SM Library as a ret with zero issues. Just keep an eye out for any +int or +healing gear that you come across and stick it in the bank. Then if someone needs you to heal, you can throw on your best Sunday dress and heal away.

I solo healed instances as ret all the way up through BRD, when I switched to holy at 58. Thing is though, I amassed a healing set (or set with int on it anyway) so that even though I was ret, I had a complete other set of gear I'd use when I was healing. He was being unreasonable, but he probably figured that since you were ret you wouldn't want to heal. I can't tell you the number of times I've been in parties where ret paladins go "I'm ret I can't heal." As many paladins out there that know how to heal while leveling, there are an equal number that refuse to.

"I'm level 20, what difference does my spec make at this point?" would have been a perfectly reasonable response to his question.

Keep +int gear handy and you should still be able to heal competently for SM and maybe a bit beyond that.

When playing alts, I can tell if a PuG is going to lead to "one of those nights" if someone is seriously asking another member about their spec.. in a more-than "just curious" way. Until SM I cringe if I even see the word "spec" as more than idle chit-chat. Even then it really won't matter that much yet.

I've gotta say though, I love having a Paladin tank and DPSer for SFK and RFK :D Throw in a Mage, Warlock, and generic healer and it's like pressing the "Easy Button". Not that there's anyting less-than-easy about those instances.
