This is a slight continuating on a seperate thread here:

I'm in the process of farming Primals for my Spellfire Gloves and spellstrike set and need some advise. Since discovering I need about 110 primals in all (50 of which are fire) I'm a little concerned on how long this is going to take me, and how difficult it could be considering I'm fire speccd and Primal fire's are going to be a pain. I've read the FAQ on respeccing to frost for improved farming potential, I've also read on here somewhere to go farm primals other than fire and sell on AH and then buy the Primal fires.

What are your recommendations on Farming locations and also what you see as the best approach for Fire Mages when it comes to farming Primal fires. Should I just respec to Frost and farm at the Elemental Plateau? Should I farm Primal Mana's in Netherstorm and sell them on AH then buy the Primal Fires? Or perhaps something else entirely?

Thanks

i stayed fire and farmed primal water instead, selling that on and buying my primal fire with the cash from primal water, seemed to work well. Of course you need more primal water for the same amount of primal fire but i found grinding the primal waters with fire to be super easy with most water/frost elemenetals going down in 1 to 2 hits it really didnt take that long due to fire's increased damage vs frost (for grinding)

I tried farming them for all of 30 minutes before realizing how much of a waste of time it was. I farmed water, air, and traded them. I also used cash from dailies to buy the rest.

clearly you cant use fire spells against the fire elementals so using some of the arcane and frost spells available to us (FB, AM, IL, FN) is a real struggle.

I'm also a Herbalist and I get Motes of life dropping once in a while so this is also a nice side line for me to sell for Primal Fires. As a spellfire Tailor I also get a few motes of fire from killing the mob that spawns when creating Spellcloth every 4 days.

I see farming Primal Mana in Netherstorm as a real quick win, but where do you suggest I go for Primal Water? I've tried the Elemental Plateau yet it seems the drop rate for motes there is really poor.

I actually farmed everything personally, arcane blast is a powerful spell assuming you have sufficient bonus spell damage to empower it. Using that I found the fire elementals in shadowmoon valley went down very quickly, and the only problem really was the drop rate.

For primal water head to Skettis and farm the elementals in the lake and river there. They seem to have a much better drop rate for motes on average. There are also some eels in the lake near Shatt but I remember the drop rate kind of sucked there too.

Nobody fishes anymore...

If you have a flying mount, and high enough fishing, fish Nagrand and the Elemental Plateau. In an hour and a half on Saturday, I got 6.5 Primal Water, 4 Goldenscale Vendorfish, two stacks of Icefin Bluefish, and two stacks of Figluster's Mudfish.

So that's 24 gold for the vendorfish, 1.5g per mudfish (grilled, natch), and 1.25g per bluefish (poached). So 24+60+50=134g in vendored/AH'ed goods and 6.5 primal water. Not too shabby for an hour and a half's work. Plus you'll skill up your cooking and you can keep some bluefish for food buffs.

Most people hate fishing, though. I like the calming music of Nagrand, though, and it's nice to look at. Kick back with a beer and make some money.

Shhhh... next thing you know they'll all be crowding around my favorite spots!

I love fishing. My husband thinks I'm a nut for wasting time on it but it's a good money maker and great if I'm just taking a break from work or having lunch or whatever. This game has nice graphics that I don't mind staring at. Put iTunes on, click one button for twenty minutes or so between bites... free gold!

As for the question, my druid will most likely farm some of the mats for my spellfire set (my mage is only level 41, so we have time), but I agree with the overall sentiment to make gold in the most efficient way you have rather than necessarily focusing on the specific primals you need. There's always plenty of primal fire up on the AH and depending on how you play, you may have faster ways to farm 10g than 10 motes.

I was worried about the farming of fire after I switched to 2/48/11, but it hasnt been that bad at all. I farmed one day around 15 primals after I switched from arcane to fire, I had lets say around 850 spell damage buffed with oil (perhaps a little less or more), with 5 points in Ice Shards and Fire Ward I got my 15 primals in around 4, 5 hours maybe. Might seem too much for some, to me it seemed ok.

I tried farming the fire elementals last night on my Druid, being a Tank it wwas slow going compared to kitty but it was alot easier than with my Mage. I got about 2 Primals in about 30mins. Think i'll try the water elementals next in skettis as suggested and compare it with the speed of the druid. I'll also take a look at the fire elementals in SMV as I've not tried to grind them before now.

My fishing is pretty low, but I'd been meaning to lvl it and i love the idea of fishing for motes, didnt even know you could do that, ace!

thanks for your great advice, i know its hard giving up your fave grinding spots ;)

Tip: Bring underwater breathing pots with you. Buy a stack from the AH if you can't make them yourself. I hate getting up there and after the first kill realize I forgot them.

Druids are great for farming water motes, btw. Aquatic form FTW.

yeah aquatic form is very handy for druids but its a royal pain having to shift mid fight just to avoid drowning. fighting in aquatic form is a waste of time imo.

I think I got some water breathing pots somewhere so i'll give it a go tonight.

I also get a few motes for killing the wraith when making Spellcloth in NS but more often than not I'm losing the fight, any suggestions? Those extra motes all help in getting the Primal fires quicker...

If you're willing to take a sec to switch weapons mid-fight(or between fights, even), there's always the Hydrocane.

I tried farming primals airs on EP usually not as many people on that side, and i can usualu 3 shot them. eventually just said ***** it and went 0/0/61 for the week. in 30 minutes I had 67 motes of fire plus a few greens for DE'ing :) definitely worth the 15g to respec.

2/48/11 build with not much +dmg ( my fault, not sure why I specced there to early, other than I like icy veins ) I am wearing the Spellfire set pieces and crap blues for the rest. I can Arcane Blast the fire elementals a few times before they get close, frost nova and ice lance once or twice and theyre dead! I can kill maybe 3 before I have to drink though unless evocates ready. If your gear is better and your build smarter, I am sure you can do better XD

Here's my armory if you're curious how your gear stacks up by comparison.

My only recommendation is don't waste too much time at Elemental Plateau. If you see someone is workin that spot move on. The headaches of "sharing" that place ( IE: You and the rest of creation racing to each spawning mob ) can be infuriating. Blades edge mountain and Shadowmoon valley have some less dominated areas :p Good luck!

I farmed 8 primal fire today in 2 hours, 2/48/11 spec, 915 unbuffed, in SMV. I was lucky though i had almost no competition. And then i struggled to get 5 primal air in 2.5 hours, still SMV, really bad drop rate though :(

Where? I can't find a good spot to farm. Doesn't matter the time. Either overrun with people or terrible drop rates...please enlighten me :)

I've been lucky enough to get up to EP in the morning before people show up, there's been 2 occasions i had the place to myself, recently got 67 motes of fire in 45 min. not ************* gets annoying when that ally hunter in full merc/veng gear drops out of the sky and tears you to pieces mid fight...

hunters are OP

i'm out!
