Low-level SPriest - two sets of gear?Follow

#1 Feb 12 2008 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
As a level 20 Shadow Priest, I have a set of gear that gives me over 60 additional heal and about 20+ spell damage. I have another set that gives buffs to intellect, stamina and spirit, in small amounts.

Is it a good idea to carry two sets of gear, one for instance healing and one for solo PVEing, or should I focus on just one?

Now that you're level 20, I'd go to SFK to get all the caster gear there. Get the Robes and Belt of Arugal and whilst you're there I'd get the Feline mantle. Generally soloing I just stack Int and Spirit and keep a bit of stamina for survivability.

I wouldn't worry too much about +healing at this level as you don't need to down-rank spells to conserve mana. Just shove a renew on the tank, and use Heal when he's about 50%. Soloing is more about spell rotation IMO. Get the right skills in at the right times and you'll get by fine. I often find myself taking on up to 3 enemies simultaneously with no trouble. So really, you only need 1 set of gear.

BTW, my biggest recommendation for PvE healing in the 20s would be Moonsoul Crown for the 6 Mp5 it has. Regaining mana while casting is great, even such a small amount.

Just looked up SFK gear on WowWiki and you're right... I need that gear. Just picked up Devouring Plague, and am going to try the interesting task of adding some DPS to my healing during instances and see how that goes. I've downloaded a threat meter, to kind of gauge how I'm doing, and won't bother with BGs until later 20s, I think...

... I'll post my character for critique at that point, too. You guys have been very helpful in analyzing my earlier characters.

It's always a good idea to carry as much situational gear as you can.

I have one set for heal/spelldamage hybrid, (for VE healing parties that don't require many spot-heals.) a straight healing set, straight shadow damage set, and a stamina set.

A lot of the items, you'll find, are used in many different sets. For instance, when you get up a little bit, you'll get your things like Bad Mojo Mask that you can use for both your heal/damage set and your normal damage set. Of course, there are some better straight healing headpieces by then.

Weapons are a good place to start looking for stats to compliment setups.

Okay, I'll start with the weapon, and off-hand item. I'll run SFK tonight and BFD when I level up a little more and see how the drops there work.
