Question about dps, yeah... another one ;) Follow

Hey guys, I've read alot about the shot rotations, macros.. etc etc...

What is not discussed often is all the trinkets and special abilities. Like rapide fire, BW... etc etc.

Do you put those on macros as well and spam so that they are on whenever they are available ? or do you just chose the perfect timing ?

I ask because i find Myself being so focused on my cc duty and dps.. and watching pet's health that I sometimes just forget about them. I know, still learning the class (62 atm) but I was just wondering how you guys dealt with that ?

thanks !

3 buttons lined up next to eachother (trinket+rapid Fire+haste drums) that i just keep half an eye on and push whenever they are up.

Timing doesnt go much beyond fitting them right after an autoshot.

As a raiding hunter, macros, or in some cases manual shot rotations, are must-haves. They maximize your dps and make you a hunter, not a huntard.

Since you are a level 62, macros will still help but won't make the difference of a lifetime.

I use a BM macro, 41/20 raiding spec thing. Any instant cast can be popped after steady shot pops, because it appeared to be spamming steady shot if you use a BM macro, or any hunter macro.

This means that trinkets, arcane shot, multi shot, any instant cast can be popped after steady shot ends, and I mean directly after.

Here is the standard BM hunter macro, i don't know if you're BM but what the hell.

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
/castsequence reset=3 Steady Shot, !Auto Shot
/cast [exists,target=pettarget] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

You don't have kill command, but this may still work.

ANY INSTANT CASTS CAN BE POPPED AFTER STEADY SHOT

Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the macro, its the one I'm using right now.

Do you also have the BW macro lined up to the others as well ?

I'm BM by the way.

as of now anyways...

Another question comes to mind... Should I go out of my way to find a better gun that the Legion blunderbuss i just got out of BF ?

Should I wait for nesingwary's gun ? the elekk one ?

I've seen several macros posted for healers which look something like this:

#showtooltip Nature's Swiftness
/stopcasting
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Nature's Swiftness
/cast Healing Wave(Rank 12)

Descriptive text included stated that activating Trinkets did not invoke a GCD, so there was no fear of slowing down the heal. I haven't really paid attention to this myself, but if it's accurate then the timing for Trinkets isn't as critical as activating any ability which does invoke the GCD. To make this work for Hunters, the macro could be modified to trigger one or both of the many "on use" AP boosting Trinkets Hunters typically use, and then Rapid Fire to get the best use of both abilities.

Untested, but possibly workable:

#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/stopcasting
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Rapid Fire

If this works (and I think it should but again I have not tested it) then the 15 seconds of Rapid Fire would enjoy the AP boost of any trinket not on cool down when the macro was activated.

i know i can activate Rapid fire + trinket + war drums in between autoshots, thus wasting only 0.5-1 seconds on my trinket and drums (RF lasts the shortest so i tend to activate that last)

I do not include my trinkets and rapid fire into a macro. I want to have control over when I'm doing burst damage.
It is not about maximizing the use of your trinkets and cooldowns. It is about beating encounters.
I'll give a few examples:
- There are bosses which have easy and hard phases. Wasting your cooldowns during the easy phases and not having them ready when you want to shorten a hard phase is not the best thing to do (e.g. when fighting Reliquary of Souls Phase. You want Phase 3 as short as possible whilst you have more room during Phase 1 and 2).
- Popping your trinkets at the start of the fight might be problematic because you really push your aggro (you might have to do full damage from the start of the fight, but that is only on certain encounters, on most you want to give your tank a solid head start).
- There are tons of fights where you have to move around a lot, or are stunned or you can otherwise not dps for some seconds. Popping Rapid Fire and trinkets before you have to move wastes a lot of damage.

So all in all I really like to hand-time my use of trinkets/rapid fire.
Yes, I might do some less damage over time, but I can make sure that I can really nuke when it is needed and in more complex encounters I can do more dps by a good timing of when I use my cooldowns.

I put them all on a single macro. Rapid Fire, trinkets, racial, the works.
On a boss fight, I usually MD to the tank, dps for 10-20 sek, FD, and pop macro.
Using you trinkets together with Rapid Fire lets you get more shots out of each trinket pop. And I love climbing the aggro list like a home-sick angel :)
