Trouble TargetingFollow

Ok, I've recently started to run instances - I'm having issues you do not have while soloing. Mainly - targeting.

Is there a macro or preset hotkey to auto target something. Also - is there a way to quickly switch back to my sheep'd target when/if it breaks?

I'm sure you've experienced this when trying to click a mob with a mouse...
Click - nope, that's the tank,
Click - nope, that's the hunter's pet
Click - nope, that's the double-pull (2nd to die)
Click - tank again
Click - Oh, there he is... Damn he's at 60% health already...

1 big spell or 2 scorches later - oh crap, where's that sheep...

There's gotta be a macro that I could write (I'm not good with Macros) that would auto target the tank's target,

There are a few options here:

having a MT list using CT-raid or something similar, or clicking on your parties target from the party/raid menu. I believe you can also click on the tank and then hit (T) which I believe is the default assist button (could be wrong though). You could also make a quick script like /target [tanks name] /assist

I know you said your not good with macros, but try this one. Just copy and paste the macro text into your macro window, select a picture, and your all set.

Simple Polymorph

This macro will allow you to designate some unfortunate soul as your chain-polymorpher. You can move onto other targets, then hit this button to repolymorph your original target. Hitting the Shift button will also force a Focus shift to your current target (can be modified to either ctrl or alt if you so choose, or even replace it with button:2 to refocus on a right-click).

/cast [target=focus,exists,nodead,nomodifier:shift] Polymorph
/stopmacro [target=focus,exists,nodead,nomodifier:shift]
/focus

I took it from the Macro FAQ on the Main WoW Forum. It works awesome. Just put the sheep picture on it, and you'll be all set.

Plus, get Natur Enemy Cast Bar (or other addons), and it will tell you when your sheep is about up. Click on your macro, and it will automatically re-target sheep and re-cast Polymorph.

that poly focus macro is the bomb...

keybind that poly macro to a easy key (I use x for example) and you never have poly issues again. That macro alone was a big boost to my dps, saves time and worries.

With that macro you do not have to change targets to poly, test it out and read the wow wikki if you need, you'll get it.

Just start the pull with the poly targerted, and even (I do since I'm so not ublerleet) just tab till you hit skull or whatnot... even in a 5 man pull shouldn't take more than a 1sec for you to get your targets set.

I have show tatget of target checked in my user interface options and just click on the tank and pick up my target that way works even better when you get adds as they may not be marked.

i use x-perl unitframes as this has a seperate frame for your party/raid tanks and shows their own targets, so you just click the right one and off you spam.

For Poly I use x-perl again for the focus target and thanks to the great people using this forum I got the same macro as mentioned earlier for setting up sheep. i Use DoTimer to show me when the sheeps about to break then i just click on the focus frame and hit the macro.

it seems that some of my tips have been put into practice. Smiley: yippee

using that sheep macro will help a lot. you cannot do without it at later stages of the game.

also, to assist someone is to target your target's target (hehe). this can be done by hitting F or typing (or making a macro with) /assist. you can also directly do /assist <name> without selecting anyone. pressing F also works on mobs.

so you select your tank/main assist/dd and hit F. you switch to their target. you nuke away. keep an eye on your /focus to resheep. use the macro to resheep without switching targets.
=> happy mage with high dps :)
