Ok, so I KNOW that SP's are one of the best PvP classes in the game, but what about PvE? In a Raid will I be able to match a hunter/rogue/mage on the dmg meters?

Not a chance, unless there's a rather severe gear disaparity.

On the other hand, you don't have to. SPriests bring Shadow Weaving, Misery and group HP/Mana regen, which is why they get into raids. The personal DPS is adequate, but they are probably the strongest utility class in the game at the moment.

Our read leader is a spriest and generally finishes somewhere in the top5 bested by Warlocks and Hunters. He generally out DPSes other classes. Although as a raid leader he has the highest attendance and therefore probably the best gear.

However like RPzip said as you get into 25man content you generally need to stop thinking about yourself and more about the group. Now certain classes are concerned only with their individual DPS, warlocks come to mind. For the rest of us you need to be thinking about group utility.

You can keep up until you get into T5-level gear, or people who really know how to gear themselves. Beyond T5, in sustained damage you won't be able to keep up. Certain fights you can still pull ahead just because of how the fight works, like being able to keep full DoT's up on Leo's WW without worrying about aggro, and tab-dotting the guys just before the actual Shade of Akama fight.

Also, shadow priests are NOT one of the best PvP classes. That was at level 60. Right now, they're one of the worst arena specs, and are also one of the specs that requires the most gear to compete. In world PvP they aren't particularly powerful either, and in BG's I find myself healing more than damaging.

From my own experience, you can match mages and every so often a hunter. However rogues/locks will almost always beat you no matter what (assuming equal gear).

At the t6 lvl our mindlfay/mb/swd simply can't keep up with the damage they put out. However, at that level you will realise you're just as valuable for a different reason. You will still be wanted by guilds but you must be able to elevate your play style to atleast compete in dps (since more dps' = more mana returned)

I was going to say this myself, until I saw lsfreak already said exactly what I would have :)

Shadowpriest in combo with holypriest (or any other great healing class) can make a huge difference in a raid. Manabatteries are loved, but on my server there a so many compared with holy/discpriests, that their value has dropped.

Your a @#%^ing newb. SP are one of the worst pvp class in the game right now. Disc/Holy or go home.

As for pve, i will tell you right now if i dont have a sp in my group i QQ like a ***** to the raid leader til i get moved to his group.

As for the damage, yes you will idk what all these other @#%^ing idiots are saying but our sp are 3 and 4 on damage meters in bos fights. The reason for this is warlocks COS. If your locks are Richard heads, you will be in top 5.

Also your damage will also keep going up if you have a priest with my build, with DS.

Very constructive :S Way to be an ***. SPs used to be great in pvp at 60, so why be surprised if someone still thinks that way, especially if they don't pvp much?

Some of us are stubborn though. Finally got my 3v3 into the 1600's, partly because my pally and I have been playing better and partly because we didn't run into 4 teams with 2000+ rating on their 5v5 >.>

I hope you're not taking that stop from a DPS just because you can't manage your mana.

Tell your other classes to stop sucking. Spriests have a max, MAX DPS of about 1650. That's including insane buffs, destro pots, perfect group makeup, and the best-of-the-best gear. Destro locks, mages, BM hunters, fury warriors, and rogues are all 400+ dps higher than that in the same situations.

Yea, cuz that extra 10 damage between pre-Kara and T6 is just *awesome.*

A shadowpriest can do well in the arena. There's top 2x2 shadowpriest + rogue teams, for example.

But I'm not really posting about that. I'm posting about your attitude. Don't come to these forums to insult people because you think you know more than they do. We don't need or want that kind of thing here. Enjoy your karmabombing.

Wow, that was really mean.
Anyhow. I used to be Shadow spec at 51. Which is not even close to end game raiding.
But I found as a Shadow priest I'd get dropped out of a group because I couldn't heal very well. So I switched to Holy.
But it was nice to be able to solo as a SP. I think its much easier then soloing as a Holy spec priest
