So I've decided to make a Pally. I guess the fact that one of my guildies loves being a pally, that I'd try as well.

I've gone through the FAQ regarding a tanking pally, as that's what I want to do, and I was wondering if this build looks good or not. I don't really have much experience with a pally, as the highest level I've ever gotten one was 6.

Any help would be appreciated. If you happen to have links to other threads that I missed, please let me know. Thanks for all the help!

Is that the build yuo're planning on levelling with or what you're shooting for end-game?

If the latter, you gotta crawl before you can walk (or you need to do the job that's in front of you) post your potential levelling build.

If the former - it's going to take you a while to level. Doable but you're making things harder on yourself unled you're going to have a DPS partner. Also what are you planning on tanking. Heroics and raid are going to make reckoning nigh useless as your gear will cause it to hardly proc. It's good for soloing and leveling but not so much for raid/heroic tanking.

SO, more info please. Leveling build or "I just hit 70" build or raid tanking build or heroic tanking build etc.

I just found this thread to help me a bit.

To Celcio :

I've just started making the pally (only around level 7 or so). I like to do solo stuff, but then again I enjoy going to do instances, and hoping to eventually do end-game.

Right now, I guess I'm looking for a levelling build (something of which I can use to solo and to group with every now and then), as I can respec for end-game when the time comes.

Ret is definitely the preferred spec for efficient leveling. At least until you're high enough to get Reckoning (via a respec) in the prot tree if that's the direction you want to go.

The ret build posted in that thread will work just fine. I think there's 1 or 2 prot builds in there too, but like I said, Ret's going to get you levelled faster.

As for instances (even pre-new palling tanking stuffs) I was able to MT or MH heal instances with appropriate gear sets as Ret spec up through 44 or so. So you'll still be useful as a tank or healer in groups/instances as Ret.

So basically until about 30-35 (as stated in a lot of the posts I've read) I should spec Ret and then respec to Prot.

And you said this build will work fine until I get up in those levels?

Thanks for the help too. I appreciate it!

30-35 is the minimum (for efficient leveling) you should stay as Ret. After that it's up to you whether you want to switch to prot or stay Ret. You'll start having some tanking difficulties around the 40's though if you stay Ret. Not insurmountable, but certainly more difficult than with a prot or prot hybrid spec.

And yep, that build should be fine as your starter build.

Its all irony. You go Ret until you can get reckoning and then go Prot. Then, you hit 70, raid, get geared up, and respec out of reckoning!

Enjoy :]
