Level 40 HunterFollow

#1 Feb 11 2008 at 8:14 AM Rating: Decent
This is my first post, so please be gentle.

I have been playing WoW since just after Christmas and have a Night Elf Hunter. I reached level 40 yesterday and as a gift to myself I bought a mount. This will help to get around much quicker but I don't know if I should have kept the gold for other items, etc. that may have been more useful.

Could I now please ask what is the best course of action for the future? What armour, weapons, quests, skills, etc. should I be aiming for or do I just carry on as I have been, taking all quests and just levelling?

I have learnt the 'mail' skill so I am ready for new armour when appropriate but I don't know when to start wearing mail. I don't really PvP so I supposed it isn't that important. I currently use a bow (primary), 2H sword (melee) and I am mining and enchanting also.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Congrats on 40!!!

A mount is a great investment, its pretty much a must buy as it decreases downtime, speeds up mining, and all that good stuff.

Initially, you're gonna be tempted to grab any mail gear that you can, but stick to your leather gear at first and gradually phase it out.

As for leveling, just continue as you have done so far, just do quests when you can. If you plan on doing end game content, it might be a good idea to do some 5 mans to get a good grasp on what you should be accomplishing as a hunter in a group dynamic. Plus, you might snag some new mail armor for yourself ;).

Otherwise, I think you're doing fine :)

Keep it up!

Grats on 40. It's one of the bigger leveling milestones, and getting a mount will make life much easier, especially if you are mining for profit.

Hitting 40 does not inherently change your path in the game. It will still simply be quest-grinding to 70, along with instancing for gear.

As for your gear, here is a seldom-practiced bit of information: You can level from 1 to 70 without ever buying a piece of gear. Have a piece that you want to replace? Go to the left sidebar under "Items...", and click "By Slot..." Lookup an appropriately-leveled item with stats that you find desirable, and see which quest/instance you have to do to get it.

As a miner/enchanter you are set to make a TON of gold. That is, assuming that you are using enchanting mainly to disenchant. Else, enchanting can be a huge gold-trap. As Ancalimanarion stated, you should just gradually phase-out your current gear. Don't be afraid to keep leather stuff if it has the stats that you want. As a hunter, you should not be getting hit that often, anyhow.

Best regards,

Acoe

I would start picking up some of the Tough Scorpid mail. Some of the pieces are available by 40. Like this chestpiece:

I think I had all of the "set" when I was in my forties and then just replaced them as I found better pieces. And they don't look too bad :-)
