Good day all! What is the best damage meter to use that will also keep track of a pets damage? I have switched from KLH to Omen for threat meters and abolutely love it. Now I just need a good damage meter...

Wow Web Stats, but you wont see that during play.
Afterwards though, it has all the info you need/want and more.

Although it is a raiding thing.

Cool thanks for the info. I'll definately give that a whirl. I was hoping there was something that would keep track of it while in the instance and would be linkable to chat as well. I did my first Outlands instance yesterday and had to hear it from the rogue who linked the damage meters in chat every 3 fights. He was up by alot because it wasnt tracking mine and the other hunters pet damage. Of course he thought he was the almighty God anyway and just kept on and on. On my rogue, I never linked meters unless asked and mainly used it to keep track of my progress, which I can't do as well with what I have now.

does SW not merge pet data aswell, and it can be viewed ingame.

but i know on most common dmg meters there is a standard option allowing you to merge pet data to the hunter/lock

I use Recount as it not only tracks damage, but heals, overheals, deaths pretty much whatever you want. In fact one one recent ZG fun run I made it my mission to break every single sheep I saw. Recount handily has a "CC Broken" tracker so I was able to tell everyone how I did :)

Wouldn't recommend this on a proper raid though, although you can use it to see who keeps breaking your traps. It also can merge pet data, but I think most of them can do that. it's just most non-Hunters and Warlocks don't bother.

Duh me. I did some research on Damagemeters (mod i have now) and one of the newer versions has an option for pets damage. Since I haven't updated that mod in about a year, perhaps updating it will allow me view the pet damage now. I'll try that out when I get home.

As for SwStats - is it much different than damagemeters? Any reason to use one over the other?

i had SW stas but got rid of it and now use the small red box dmg meter as i found it a lot easier to get along with and it only needs to take up a tiny bif of your game screen.

Of course you could just name your pet the same as your character. Works wonders for those who like to leave out pet damage. As long as you have the same name as your pet all damage will be counted towards your character. Then you can sit back and watch the rogues squirm!

i never see hunters damage make rogues/fury warriors/locks squirm, even with pets merged

When I found this out we were in Kara. A shadow priest was owning the damage meters at the time. If I remember correctly a warlock was behind him followed by a rogue then the hunter. Then out of nowhere the hunter shot up to the top spot. Then after many "wtf"s being tossed around he tells us he renamed his pet.

More importantly I was just trying to give hunters an option when grouped with people that don't include pet damage.

I am tempted to lose my pet and train another one just to do this. Maybe this would even have its advantage in PvP/Arena...at least with the targeting issues.

You havnt played with any good hunters then. A BM hunter is the highest dps in the game right now.

I find opposite to be true. The only way rogs, wars, locks reach same lvl as hunter is when they are t6 lvl.

Which class tops the meters is typically more dependent on the fight, assuming equivalent gear levels. Lots of extras? Expect the Warlocks to blow everyone away. Although Rogues in mostly blues have out DPSed me on some very straight forward Boss fights.

Damagemeters is great for solo play, since it's really simple. However, for doing instances, SW stats is more reliable. It syncs data with the other people in the group that use it, so the numbers are more accurate. Also, with SW stats, if you hover over your name in the window, it'll give you a basic break-down of your damage similar to WWS.

iv played with many good BM hunters, they jsut dnt top dmg meters

but bare in mind i have not gone past kara/gruul/maggy yet so it may be different after that, but i found in kara and heroics they dnt tend to come top.

i am currently leveling my hunter so i will see 1st hand the dmg they can do when i hit 70

SW Stats.

Pet data can be merged or viewed separately and it syncs between everyone in a group or raid who is running the addon. Most accurate meter I've seen so far, recount runs a close second.

WoW Web Stats (WWS) probably has the most extensive stat listing available but it requires several people to be parsing their combat logs for maximum accuracy; It also requires someone to prepare the logs and setup the reports afterwards. Its a tool best used by raiding guilds as opposed to quick 5 man pug runs.

BM hunters are very consistent DPS based so in fights with lots of adds or where you have to change targets a lot, the Hunter will be very hard pressed to do better than locks/ casters. But in long fights where they don't have to do much but spam the macro and pop trinkets/ CD's they should win.

i was on ym warrior in kara, against maiden and the BM hutner was 15% below me on dmg.

it was ym 1st time in kara on my warrior, with only 2 epics and BM hunter was near full epic.

same on Attuemen

obv on curator he beat me, as its a bit difficult to run after the sparks
but it was only by 3%

I routinely top-DPS 5-mans and Kara PUG attempts, counting my pet separately. But once I get to Heroics and actual raid guilds, I'm near the bottom again. Not even at the top after merging my pet data. It's crazy.

Right now I use the "Damage Meters" mod. It's nice and simple, but it does not show pet or guardian data for anyone but you. Unless they name their pet after themselves, of course.. but who does that?

I'm getting Recount right now. I'm hoping it works better with pets.

I use Recount as well. WWS is great of course...but it's best when a few of you are running it in a raid.

No.

Seriously.

That hunter is awful.

Tell him/her to get over here and get educated. Or tkasomething.com, though I would recommend both.

It's all well and nice to say you out dps'ed a BM hunter and he was all epiced out compared to you, but it is all so situational none the less.

Maiden stuns everyone outside of her aura throughout the fight whilst the whole time you get to run around and wail on her butt with little to no interruptions. These stuns can be right at the start of a rapid fire or trinket pop, and gimp the hell out of the hunter’s dps.

Curator fight, you maybe chasing flares but he might have been shooting them too, just he was not jumping in front of it, dose not mean he wasn't helping take it down.

That said, he could have just sucked the big one and not even know what a shot rotation was, use his pet, have strength enchants on all is epics, etc... But all very situational.

=( not cos im great and have great rage gen and attack cycles xD

i was fully aware that the maiden fight was only because of the stuns, and i know if it wernt for the stuns the hunt er would of trounced me.
its was just that knowing that he does insane dps and usually comes high in dmg on raids.

when on my lock i come 1st on maiden, i know this is partly because of the dots still ticking whilst we are all still stunned

there is no point in comparing anything to a lock on the curator, ilhoof or netherspite fight.

i am now leveling my hunter to see what the BM hype is all about.

Recount is the best damage meter, imo. Think of it as a mini, in-game WWS parse. Tons of feedback, shows exactly what abilities people are using, and so on. Realtime DPS graphs, if that's your thing, and it merges pets but also shows them as a separate character, if you want it to.

I had a hunter do that last night in arena. Screwed up Proximo's targeting system nicely, and /tar macros would mess up as well.

Oh, and I can color code everything :D
