#1 Feb 10 2008 at 7:06 PM Rating: Default
hello I am a lvl 40 troll shaman with a lvl 36 Belf paladin and I will compare them when they are both at level 40 but what i want to know right off the bat before i get there if it possible for a paladin to actually hit hard and do some damage or will we always be stuck watching someone do virtually no damage to us while we whittle their health down peice by peice

I also want to be pvping most of my time so input on which one is better in pvp is also apprecitated

so to save you a lot of embarassment and a lot of flaming from some of the more knowledgable posters and those that HAVE READ THE FAQ stickie, the short answer is no pally's are not a dps class even though they have the ret tree that allows you to do some decent burst damage, but not long term dps like a shaman, rogue, mage, hunter or even a boomkin druid.

So essentially if you want to pvp either take your pally and spec holy and when you hit 70 go with the ever popular shockadin build that allows you do to some good burst damage but also allows you to keep your teammates alive

DPS shaman are pretty poor in PvP as well, from what I understand.

I'm not sure any of the hybrid classes are really dps toppers. Enhancement shamans bring nice buff to others, but I don't remember ever seeing a shaman top dps meters (except one that just cheats lol). I'm fairly sure feral druids aren't top dps either when you compare them to a rogue. I think that its just a drawback of playing a class that has multiple options for play style. If a rogue, a pure dps class, can't compete for top dps, considering it can't perform any other function (kick aside), then what would be the point of ever bringing a rogue to a group. Paladins can potentially tank, heal, or dps so if they were truely superior to single-function classes, something would be wrong.

When put that way, the answer is yes, particularly at the level you are where Paladin DPS is generally considered at its peak.

At level 40 your ret spec pally can dps, tank and heal but what you have to understand is that at endgame a paladins role is either tanking or healing... More often than not healing.

If your idea is to level him up to 70 and dps (PvE or PvP) then I am sorry but you have picked the wrong class for now. I would leave him at 39 for now and see what happens when the new expansion comes out.

I DO NOT EXPECT TO OUT DO A ROGUE, MAGE, WARLOCK, OR HUNTER IN DPS but i do expect to be able to pick a huge 2Hander using crusader strike and hurt somebody. I also expect to out dps a priest, arms/prot warrior, some shamans, or a non-balance druid

You probably could our dps a priest, you won't out dps a decent dps warrior, you might be on par with shamans (maybe a little behind if anything), and I'm not sure about druids. You can certainly get a 2-hander and hurt someone, but you'll find yourself, at times, incapable of defeating some classes.

Pallies do not DPS and we should be ok with it. Why? Because the game is broken if you can out DPS any of the dps classes. Paladins have the unique luck of being able to spec into the two most sought after positions in all of WoW. Tank and Healer. Ret pallies can't even COMPETE with the DPS classes and when looking for groups and when groups are given options and they are looking for DPS RET will be the LAST choice... the "last resort"... "wannabe" DPS... I love Pallies but not every class can do everything.

In my opinion a Pally who can choose to TANK well, Heal well AND DPS WELL is NOT a good thing... Every class needs a weakness.

I love the way he asks a question and when people tell him the answer... (everyone agreeing the same thing...)

He tries to prove everyone wrong.......

*sigh* Ahh well... My peice of advice to Mr. Bamninja would be to learn about a thing called Magic. It's what 99.99999999999999999999999999999999998991% of Paladins use. (the other % being goldsellers)

Shockadin - n. (noun)
A Paladin that uses the Instant Cast Spell "Holy Shock" with a number of Spell Crit + Damage gear. Using this Paladins are able to obtain small amounts of endgame dignity in PvP situations and still able to heal effiecently. Many people have given shockadins the title of "Armoured Jesus" or "OMGWTFBBQdin"

I suckadin - n. (noun)
Commonly used name for Bamninja, who has recently topped the Noobatron 6000 world record for being the official spokesman for "Noob Inc." The company made thier first appearance after announcing that Bamninja indeed loves small asian rabbit droppings in his morning coffee.

I feel i've made a differance today... /bow

Thank you and goodnight!

His question was not if he could OUT-dps a dps class...every time there is a guy to answer this to this question often asked. His question, and in his replies he said it, if he could dps. To that my answer is no, a paladin doesn't even do decent dps. (at 70)

The shaman is better, the paladin has all his strength in healing right now no dps, and due to interrupts and the fact that they silent you for several seconds you are not even allowed to heal, or you play mediocre opponents.

The paladin is free-kill against warriors and rogues due to that, also against shamans played well, free-kill against mages who counter-spell and silent you, or free-kill against priests who will mana burn you. If they don't they don't understand their class and what mana burn is against a paladin. Free-kill against feral druids too. And of course against warlocks, they have even the choice of how they will kill the paladin, but mana drain and fear is a good one. The paladin is definetely not a PvP class, but Blizard will perhaps do something about that, eventually.

A paladin cannot be completly invisible like a rogue on plainsight, strike for behind and stun the guy to death with sweet poisons in the bunch when he wants it, and vanish when 5 foes comes and not be dead. There is (are) your weakness(es). Also only protection paladins can tank well, the paladin is thus not a tank class, to the contrary of the warrior who can tank being arms of fury in a given instance due to the defensive stance all warriors being arms, fury, or protection have.

Depending on the itemization reviews in patch 2.4 for Ret Pallies, we might have to start being a little easier on them. I would really love it if I could compare notes with a good Ret Pally in-game (and by that I mean watch him in action for the duration of a raid), but I'm not sure if that day will ever come.

What I'd really like to see is what I myself could do with one now, but I love my Resto Shaman too much, and I'm not about to level another Pally to 70. I'm not about to level another anything to 70 until I unlock my Death Knight.

Good luck with that - you've posted plenty of threads to reinforce that opinion... Oh right some were from your "brother".

Protips:

1) Choose a new username
2) Don't spam stupid crap - if it wasn't received well that should tell you something
2a) No really, don't spam stupid crap
2b) If you MUST spam stupid crap don't blame it on your "brother"
2c) Don't spam stupid crap
3) Don't try to insult people who point out your stupid crap, especially if the majority concur that it's stupid crap
3c) If you think you have a really new, fresh idea that we just don't get? Don't insult people that don't understand your genius. Explain it. If you can't adequately explain it? It's stupid crap.
4) Learn from people you're thinking of insulting which seems to be why you're posting here in the first place, no?
5) ?????
6) Profit

Short of that? Just go away. After the crap you've liberally spewed across several boards people just aren't going to take you seriously. No one's buying the errant brother given the comments from "you".

You screwed up. If you want advice, then suck it up and stop randomly cursing people out, if you want to troll. THen buy all means do so. But try to be unique will you? You're pretty 3 years ago and inept even at that.

Yes, you think I'm picking on you. Rest assured. You're on our own until you choose which path to take. I hope others will similarly give you the responses (or lack thereof) you've earned. What you choose will dictate the responses - as it's been so far, so shall it be. I'm giving you a shot to clean it up and not be a moron (not to be confused with noobs who come here legitimately seeking knowledge not reinforcement of whacked ideas, and who put up coherent posts and questions with a minimm of cursing insults when the answers don't suit the things they just *know*)
