Heroics, who is at fault? healer or tank?Follow

hi the topic of this post may be a little deceiving but let me try to elaborate.

I started healing heroics at roughly around +1200 healing. Since then I've been able to hit +1738 or so ( name is iheal on frostwolf, might have a fishing pole on so disregard plus healing rate). anyhow, i've noticed that when i'm online lfg for heroic dailies, the only ones on are warriors with 11k life, 10k armor, round 400 defense or so.

now, i dont know where to ask this question or find the answer but as a healer, i'm hoping other healers can give me a guideline: what would i look for in a tank to be the bare minimum in running a heroic instance?

what is minimum defense they should have?
life?
armor?
block rating?

also, what determines something being unCRITTABLE. i believe uncrushable is 100% avoidance right?

thanks in advance for help. I just want to make sure i screen through tanks before i actually attmempt to heal them in a heroic and see them get three shotted to death.

I have not healed at 70 yet, so I can't answer for that. However,

Uncrittable is at 490 Defense (415 for Druids, due to talents). Defense adds .04% Parry chance, Dodge chance, and Block chance. Adding in these in greater and greater quantities will lessen the chance for you to be critically hit, then crushed, then normally hit.

Uncrushable is 102.something% avoidance, the extra stuff over 100% is because raid bosses are treated as level 73. Druid tanks can't become uncrushable.

The Health/Armor/Block Rating question depends on what tank. Druids have much much higher health and armor, because they cannot block.

I am a prot pally that has cleared Kara and done a few heroics, so here are my thoughts:

I think being uncrittable is a must, especially since most heroic mobs already hit pretty hard. Paladins and warriors are uncrittable at 490 defense, druids at 415 defense with talents, so those tanks you run with that have 400 defense are really gonna make you work as a healer.

A tank is uncrushable when they have 102.4% avoidance with Holy Shield/Shield Block active. The 102.4% value is for Lvl 73 raid bosses. Since there are none of those in heroics, the value to be uncrushable by heroic mobs is 101.6%, I believe. So while being uncrushable isn't a must, it would still be good if the tank is at least fairly close to that value, to make it easier on you, the healer, by reducing spike damage.

I think the minimum health should be 11k-12k or fairly close to it.

Hope that helps. :)

Do not run with any warrior/pally tanks that have below 490 defense. My old guild pulled me into heroic SV while I was still at 450 defense and I was flattened. You should also be looking for a tank to have 12k HP and 12k armor. If you find a tank with these stats then they should have the necessary avoidance although it never hurts to ask.

I can't speak for pally or druid tanks, but I know that warrior tanks are very gear dependent and I wouldn't be running with any that are still wearing greens (rings and trinkets are the only exception). Good luck in your search for a tank. A good heroic run is a lot of fun.

Everything said here is pretty much correct. To be nit picky, at 70 you can't be crushed at all in heroics because mobs have to be 3 levels above you* to crush and the bosses in heroics are 72. Additionally, because they're 72, the uncritable number for +def in heroics is 485.

Also, I want to add 2 things:

1) If you're checking out this stuff via the armory note that may reflect a set of soloing gear, not necessarily the tanking set. If this is what you're doing it may account for the mass of low-health/armor/def tanks you're seeing.

2) One additional stat you may want to look for at a paladin tank is spell dmg. Most are smart enough to HAVE enough but I've been seeing a rash of them with like 50 spell dmg. That's not enough. You want them to have around 150-200.

*in most cases, I think there are some wandering outdoor elites that can crush but they're not pertinent to an heroics discussion

Answering on behalf of druid tanks...

15k health unbuffed, 25k+ armor, 35% dodge and uncritable. Please note that for druids uncritable would be the 415 defense OR enough defense and resilience to reach the cap.
