Which enchant?Follow

I just picked up a sun eater earlier, so I'm debating between Executioner and Mongoose. I know the difference between the two, but all I've done is up to kara, so I'm not sure what to expect when I go into harder things like ZA, Gruul, or Mag. On the one hand I could be going in with DPS who are better geared than I am as a tank, making it hard to hold aggro. OTOH the extra avoidance might save my life. Any suggestions?

Suneater is an avoidance weapon, so go with mongoose on it. The threat difference between the two won't be that massive. Once you get your hands on a true threat weapon go for Executioner on that.

I have never seen a tanking weapon with executioner on it, do people actually do that?

there is a blog off of theory/tankspot that shows you can get either one. however, imo, if you need the extra 240 armor, 3% crit and ~4% dodge (if wowwiki is to be believed, 25 agi = 1% dodge), i would very much go for mongoose.

i plugged some numbers into maxdps.com (sun eater weapon stats, and obv no impale, dw spec, flurry etc.), and it says that if the tank is buffed with BoK, 100 armor penetration does not exceed the dps from 10 strength til about 2700 AP fully buffed.

mongoose > executioner, IMHO.

ArP is good in large numbers in top end DPS builds.

You'll want the crit (something many tanks lack anyways) from mongoose, the avoidance bonus is good as well.

Mongoose is about 1% crit all the time (4% x 15 seconds / minute) which essentially acts like hit for tanking.

I wish their was an expertise enchant though.

Well reason I ask is I've heard a lot of tanks say that once they switch to Executioner they get a pretty noticeable increase in their TPS on Omen.

this has been brought up in a few other forums, and although you will not like this answer [unless you are rich] it makes the most sense.

both enchants are great.

they are also used for different purposes.

executioner : more threat than mongoose... however, no mitigation. Should be used on fights where threat is more important than surviving [farmed content, trash, and a few progression bosses]

mongoose : the crit will do less threat, hands down. But, you also gain dodge and some armor, making this a better enchant for your avoidance set.

As far as for a main tanking set, either one is kind of a tossup. The dodge and armor is nice, but depending on how the rest of your raid is geared and what your guys' playstyle is, executioner can be better.
