First off, I'm fairly knew to these forums, and I must say there is lots of good stuff here. Much more, in fact, than on Blizzard's forums. So hats off.
I'm working on a 49 twink rogue, mostly because I really enjoy the pvp at this level because there aren't many other twinks, and pvp at 70 seems to be just twinking at the level cap anyhow.

I've read it in a hundred posts, that swords are the way to go, no matter what tree I spec into. Can someone break down exactly why? Such as is the energy cost and positioning of abilities like ambush and backstab, just not worth the damage? Also I've read that even outside of a combat swords spec, such as sublety, swords is the way to go. I understand that swords have higher damage per hit, thus creating higher damage on abilities outside of those that require daggers, but why swords over maces if I'm not going to spec combat?

Also, does all this mean, that ambush and backstab are useless and I should remove them from my action bar? Or create a weapon swapping macro for when I want to make a warlock cry?

Thanks, and I look forward to your input.

I doubt you've read that a hundred times. And anyone who says that about the swords build is... umm.... duh.

But it is often mentioned that Combat Swords is the most efficient DPS build for PvE and end-game raiding.

For PvP: In the Combat tree, maces are often suggested for the stun proc; and there are plenty of dagger wielding Shadow Step (deep Sub) rogues out there.

Ambush and Backstab are only useless if you don't have daggers equipped (obviously) and there are indeed macros for weapon swapping (try wowwiki.com) that I think a few people use. I don't so I can't suggest one.

Check out the rogue forum stickies in these forums for tons of info and happy hunting!

If you only PvP, get maces. If you ever go into combat, you'll thank me.

If you do any PvE, go with swords. They give the highest DPS in end game, and are a reasonable choice for PvP.
