Trying to be a polite hunter.Follow

In the FAQ it states that Hunters #1 priority in stats is agility. Followed by Stamina. However, while running RFC a few days ago a cloak dropped that had +4 agility and +4 stamina. Then two seconds after I roll need a rouge in the group starts crying about how it is a rouge cloak.

I have a feeling I will be experiencing this a lot trying to gear up my hunter in instances. Am I correct? Also, I'm 90% sure I needed it just as much as the rouge but want to hear what other people think.

Should I just ignore these "Hunter Haters" or is this an isolated inccident?

Any answers are appreciated.

Until hunters can wear mail at level 40, rogues and hunters can have similar gear needs and both wear leather. So, situations like this are inevitable if you group with a rogue. As long as you asked before you needed, or the rule "Need if need, otherwise greed" was in effect then I'd say don't worry about it. If the rogue needed it, he should have rolled need. If he did roll need and you rolled better than he did, then so be it.

There are similar gear issues with other classes, like Warrior and Paladin rolling on plate items, for example. It's part of the game.

If you need something, then don't feel bad about rolling need on it. Just don't roll on something that isn't appropriate, that's what huntards are notorious for. But in this particular case, you're well within your rights to roll need on a +Agi +Stam cloak.

Yeah thats going to happen until 40+, so just follow loot rules and if someone complains, then just ignore em.

Rogue, rogue, rogue. Go type 1000 times please.

Now to your point, it's a cloak so mail vs. leather is not an issue. If the rogue needed it then he should have rolled need. If he did roll need and lost the roll tell him to stfu or gtfo, or possibly both.

There is no point in trying to be nice to someone that is a selfish ***, it's an effort in futility because no matter what you say or how right you may be, in his mind you are wrong and that was his gear, and nothing you say will convince him otherwise.

But +4 agi and +4 stam is a just as much a hunter cloak as it is a rogue cloak, or even a feral druid cloak, so you were fine in rolling need on the item.

Thanks for preventing another huntard running around. However funny that term is and as much as I laugh when I hear it, it just wouldn't be as funny aimed at me.

You did nothing wrong. The cloak was just as useful to you as it was him. As mentioned before, below level 40, you'll compete against rogues for item and after 40, it'll be against enhancement shaman.

My original idea for my post was going to ask why he needed a red cloak so badly, and why the rogue wanted said red cloak even more, but I was rushed in my typing here at work so I skipped the joking and got right down to the meat of the issue.

It's very rare a class gets drops all to themselves.

just now on my Warlock alt, a +Stam +Spirit cloak dropped. I had to compete with a pally and a druid for it, all could equally benefit.

I didn't win ;p

Only time it bothers me is when people don't realise Warlocks load up on Stam and moan for stealing "tank" gear.

On my hunter, I still rock a bit of leather now, so it'd not be unheard of to need to compete with rogues for that (Although if it was a guild rogue, I'd prolly let him have it)

The only rule on Needing in PUGs is, if it's a sensible upgrade for you, then take it.

I don't normally rate people up or down, but taking my comment in stride like that definately deserves a rate up.

but you can ctrl + c, ctrl + v!

I have a similar quoting problem.

Actually, knowing my instances pretty much by heart, the cloak you're talking about really grants +4agi and +4str, making it more of a rogue cloak than a hunter cloak imo. Now, you can need it for the agi, but keep in mind that rogues benefit from the +str too, and you don't. If you want to be a nice hunter in this case you greed and give the rogue a free roll.

Then again... what's life without a bit of intrigue? Need it, watch the rogue squirm in pain for bashing his keyboard too hard. Pain is beautiful, in all forms!

Yeah I noticed that when I was trying to come back with a smartass remark about how it wasn't red.

So strength is not needed for hunters?

Im used to playing a druid and having both strength and agility give me AP.

Or a warrior cloak, or a (ret/prot)paladin cloak, or an enh. shaman cloak.

Spirit is great when questing, soloing and grinding, means less downtime, but I know nobody has seperate sets of gear for instancing and soloing so this is really a pointless remark, but still.... I like semantics.

Problem is it takes way to much spirit to get a decent return on health and mana.

Actually, spirit is sort of useless period (spare for some priest and druid talents). If you sacrifice enough agi and AP (and int too) over spirit, you'll see the time increase in actually killing the mobs outweighs the diminished downtime.

Too much, or all-out on spirit is bad, due to this. Weaving a little spirit in there is also pretty strange to do, since it will either be of so little difference it isn't noticeable, or will probably be spent better on other stats.

I had some noob kill me over this topic ages ago, so I might come off harsh. Point is, spirit is in non-talentbased cases pretty useless.

For future reference; Look for Agi, Stam, Int. and later on Attack Power and maybe crit... These will be your main stats. (Varying slightly in importance of each depending on your spec.)

As mentioned before you will most likely be competing with rogues and druids for gear 'til 40 when you get to wear mail. At that point you may be competing with some shammys for some items... This does bring me to a pet peeve though...

Although perhaps "fair" in certain regards... It kind of irks me when certain players roll on items for off sets... Hunters basically have 2 sets of gear... PvE and PvP ... Thats it... Some other classes have like 4... PvP, Heal, DPS, and Prot as in the case of Pallys... It bugs me when a holy pally rolls on an item with AP. Crit. or agi. for thier "dps" set when I could have really used the item for my one PvE set... Anyways... be prepared for this aswell... /endrant.

Neck, Trinkets, Back, and RIngs you will always be fighting for over Rogues, DPS Warriors, Feral Druids, Enh Shaman, and Ret Pallies

Just the nature of the game :S
