Shaman

* Lightning Bolt: Spell coefficient reduced by $
* Lightning Overload can no longer proc on instant cast spells. (aka NS+CL won't proc it)
* Lightning Overload can no longer critically hit.
* Tremor Totem and Poison Cleansing Totem now pulse every 3 seconds, down from 5.
* Earth Shield mana cost reduced by 50%
* Earth Shield now has 6 charges, down from 10.
* Healing Grace: Now also reduces the chance your spells will be dispelled by 10/20/30%

I've always thought that Shamans need to be nerfed. They are just too not powerful enough.

Well.... this looks like upgrades. 6 charges of earth shield but paying 50% (so only paying for the cost of 5 but getting 6). In PVP it gets dispelled anyways, so that's actually great. You spend 50% less mana and if it gets dispelled it isn't as bad as before. Then factor in that it'll have a resist if you pvp with a pve build.

Looks like Resto got a tiny pvp buff while elemental got kicked in the balls.

The problem comes in during pulls in instances. In most pulls, 10 earth shield will last on the tank for the whole fight, where six will only last about half the fight. This means that on bad pulls that you will have to forget about ES to get that much needed heal off when the tank goes down below 20%. We'll just have to wait and see for the official patch notes though and deal with it then.

I'm inclined to believe that these three changes are false simply because of the fact that if all three were to go through, Elemental Shaman would be nerfed into obsoletion and would be no more welcome in raids or PvP teams than Retribution Paladins. I'm not Elemental anymore, but I would still be furious to see that happen.

This is a huge buff both in PvP and PvE. Like... astronomical. I always thought it would be great if Tremor Totem actually worked. You know, like it was supposed to...

Quote:
* Earth Shield mana cost reduced by 50%

This sounds way too good to be true...

Quote:

... while this sounds like something I would expect from Blizzard. Stupid and pointless change, completely unneeded even if they did reduce Earth Shield's mana cost.

Quote:

This one's already been discussed at great length. I'll take any buff I can get, but this is still a rather stupid and pointless one.

I would be infuriated as well. Elemental has a special place in my heart.

But what about in pve when the tank gets ES. 10 charges lasts 1-2 fights. 6 will last maybe one or 1/2.

I cant really say anything for the first three since I've never been Elemental and I never will be.

Love that Tremor and Posion Cleansing pulses faster, great for everything.

Hate the two for Earth Shield. 50% mana reduction doesnt matter in groups/raids becasue you can cast, tell them to wait and let the mana regen. In PvP you can cast for free during the 5 seconds of free spells after mass rez. 6 charges would suck, both PvE and PvP since you get healed less, doesnt last as long.

Would love the last one, Earth Shield might actually last longer than 60 seconds.

Here's the actual patch notes from the actual PTR Patch Notes:

Blizzard wrote:
Shaman

* Call of Thunder: (Rank 5) now gives 5% critical strike chance.
* Earth Shield: Mana cost reduced roughly in half, and charges reduced from 10 to 6.
* Elemental Focus: This buff will no longer be removed when Shamanistic Focus is triggered.
* Healing Grace: This talent now reduces the chance your spells will be dispelled by 10/20/30%.The resistance to being dispelled modifier from this talent now applies correctly to Water Breathing.
* Rockbiter Weapon: Tooltip and error messages have been adjusted slightly.
* Stormstrike has a new icon.
* Totem timer icons will now show up under your player portrait when you cast totem spells. Right-clicking a totem timer icon will destroy that totem.
* The Shaman spell Fire Nova Totem will no longer sometime detonate without doing any damage.

Also, RPZip put up a link to the 2.4 notes in the General Forum.

This patch was mostly bug fixes. I am hoping that they were just getting them out of the way so they had less to worry about as far as balance goes for some bigger changes.

There is still hope. Once WotLK hits, content will move to level 80 and players will gain new talents and abilities.

If they are, you know, good, then Shaman may be restored to at least a level place. (I don't want it to be as powerful as it once was. I like it when there isn't a bandwagon on classes, EG Hunters.)

I just want Balance. Blizz is closer than last year, and way closer than the year before that. They just haven't quite gotten it yet.

Honestly, I just wish they gave different spells either-or effects. Like, Frost Shock does this in PvP but that in Arenas / BG / against other PCs.

It would be a lot of work, but it would be nice if every ability every class had did something in all content. Like Stoneclaw Totem. Who uses this in a raid and why?

Who uses it in PvP and WHY for that matter...

These aren't the last of the PTR patch notes.

Chances are this patch will be on the PTR for over a month, and I'm sure they'll add things to it little by little.

Stand by for more changes before the patch goes live.

I saw the original post and almost choked to dead. Took 8 posts till someone actually noticed only one of those was in blue;

Lowering the LB spell coefficient would be horrible. We get to little from +spellpower anyway, ever since LB casting speed was reduced by 0.5 secs. Also, LO not proccing from instant spells would be pretty unusual; making that sort of change for a 20% chance proc of a spell we can use once every 3 minutes?

The whole idea behind the LO changes in the last patch was that by halving the damage, but making it proc more often, it would be easier to keep up clearcasting. Going trough an entire BF-run without having to drink once? Priceless.

And finally, the Earth Shield changes. Lets face it; we had it comming. Resto Shammies are terrible hard to kill in PvP, takes ages. Then again, holy/prot priests are worse. But I guess Blizzard couldn't prossibly nerf their love babies (ok ok, I'll take this to the paladin forums).

All in; we had the ES nerf comming... yes, its a nerf, even with the mana-cost reduced. But I swear to god, the day they mutilate elemental like this, I'm speccing Ench again (oh, the horror!).

Oh right, of course; I totally agree, mostly because resto shaman are the most wanted healers in all brackets, amirite?!

2v2

3v3

5v5 (the only place where we're wanted)

I lol'd so hard, Earth Shield does not need a nerf. If anything it is in need of a huge buff or "redo". Make it harder to dispell (30% not being much). Make each charge seperately dispelled?

The mana reduction is only good for pvp, but pve? i dont want to waste mana on prince to rebuff ES on the tankadin every 5-6 seconds. I doubt it wil even truely translate to 50% mana redution knowing how retarded blizzard can be when "buffing" shaman.

I was wondering about how earth shield will be now. Is it mana efficient to cast earth shield throughout a boss fight? I read something that shamans do this in raids on the elitistjerks website.

I don't recast earthshield too much during fights. Though moreso now my mana pool is up halfway decent. I don't have the mana problems I used to have. I do recast it right before phase 2 on prince. this week on prince we lost our priest (healing for grp 2 guild run), and I became #1 healer. But our druid respecc'd to resto. And wow. I like having a druid. Prince seemed much easier with his heals than with priests greater heals. much less overhealing. In fact, I didn't cast much during phase 2 (let the druid and pally take it mostly), and didn't need a pot on that fight (did use mana tide though).

I'm getting a little off topic, but I was just wondering about your all thoughts on earth shield. Is it worth to keep recasting in a fight?

Ok I am sorry to dissapoint all of you but I saw a forum on the O Boards with this information. THIS IS A FAKE. I used caps so readers could just read this one line and not have to read the rest. If the OP would have provided the link to this information then everyone here would know these claims are bogus. Some of the other patch notes included with these bogus patch notes is people only being able to carry 3-4 stacks of table food, warlock shadow bolt debuff only effecting the warlock who proc'ed it and many other big nerfs. I am sorry to dissapoint all of you guys. I hope your class gets boosted in the next patch since it may be the last till the expansion.

They were never claimed to be real; the original post noted that they were the result of a few design meetings that someone swiped while in the company (or something along those lines, I really don't remember the details). It definitely mentioned that not all changes on the list would hit with the official patch.

Considering that they had some rather far-out changes in both the notes and the actual 2.4 PTR changes (see: Earth Shield changes, especially the number of charges - 'Six' is not an answer you'd expect people to pick by random) I trust them, at least in the sense that they're ideas that may or may not pan out.

do not think anyone wants to hear this, but earthen shield is still getting 2 free charges, and when it is purged it wont **** you off as much.

In PvE ES is pretty OP, in heroics, if i am spec resto i dont do much more then recast earthen shield on tank, occasionally chuck a chain heal if someone else takes damage, and an occasional Healing wave.

Then you're not healing heroics or Kara.

I have healed plny of heroics and found them quite boring, but maybe the tanks where also too geared...

based on my experience, heroics are not too tough to heal as a shaman with plenty of +healing and earthen shield

Well, that would depend on your tanks. But as the only healer in a herioc group, if your tank is anything less than full-epic geared, Earthshield is more or less just mitigation; active healing is going to be what keeps him alive. I'm not saying healing heroics is hard, but Earthshield is hardly OP in any manner of post-70 PvE content, especially with the outrageous mana cost. I'm nearly in full epics of various origin (Kara, PvP, badges) and Earthshield still sucks 9% of my total mana away per cast.

Well my resto gear has major +healing (with totem down 2k)

and when I pop my trinket to earthen shield I get about 2350+ healing or so.

But I will admit to only healing heroics with well geared tanks since I am tank picky from being ele so often lol

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Hold on a second. I'm going to have to stop you right there.

jmfmb wrote:

I thought your main was Elemental. So you're telling me your off-spec has +2000 healing? Or are you Resto? You need to clear this up for me right now, because that could clear up a lot for me regarding my respect (or lack thereof) for any advice you've been giving lately. Because based just on hearing that, I'm thinking one of two things are probably true:

1. You're lying. And you're probably not, I'm trying to look at your armory page but I can't because the website is sucking, but I can't imagine you'd make gear claims like that with an armory link at the bottom of your sig.

2. You are overgeared for heroics. If you are running with tanks who are approaching even remotely as geared as you are then you are probably running with tanks who are perfectly capable of tanking every pull in a heroic without any CC at all. I'm assuming this is the case based on you saying...

Quote:
But I will admit to only healing heroics with well geared tanks since I am tank picky from being ele so often lol

Look. It's obvious we got off on the wrong foot, and I take complete responsibility for that. But you need to understand something right now: you need to stop giving advice on heroics based on your current gear level and the level of gear of people you (probably) run with. I'm not saying, "Stop giving advice," but you need to adjust your angle some.

When I tell people about running VC or WC for the first time, I'm going to assume they're 16-22 and I'm to give them advice with that in mind. I'm not going to give them advice from the vantage point of someone who's level 35 with mostly blues on. That may seem ridiculous to you, but that's basically the equivalent of what you're doing.

When I am talking about running heroics, I am talking about people who are either just gearing up for Kara or who just started running Kara. People that are probably in all blues or mostly blues with maybe two or three purples. These are the people that "run" heroics. With gear in the range you're talking about, you're not "running" heroics. You're farming them.

People geared like that don't need advice on heroics, and your assumption that everyone else is going to be running around in gear like that is doing more harm than good. I would honestly be pissed if I just cleared TK for the first time and you were giving me this advice about running a heroic, because when I got there the reality of it isn't going to match up even remotely close to the picture you've painted for me and I wouldn't be prepared to deal with anything there.
