If I'm in a group with a shaman healer, and a holy priest is looking for group, I probably won't pick it up, since we've already got a shaman. Even though I HATE shamans, because the shaman was there first.

Not leaving a name with the quote because I don't mean to pick on anybody, but seriously, who hates shamans? I have both a protection warrior and a restoration shaman at level 70 in fairly decent gear; at least enough to own heroics on either.

My question is, what healers do you all prefer in a 5-man as tanks and why?

I can chime in with why I think shaman has an advantage healing 5-mans, but I'm very interested to see what other people think. As a tank, I really could not care less what class the healers is, as long as they can keep myself and the rest of the group alive.

I'm pretty lucky with healers when I tank. 95% of them get the job done regardless of their class. I NEVER turn down a healer just because of his class.

A lot of it depends on the instance and the group composition. But based upon the ideal situation where I am the only one taking any real damage here is my preference:

1) Holy Pally
2) Holy Priest
3) Resto Shaman
4) Resto Druid

But that list almost completely flips if it's one of those instances that requires a lot of group healing.

Everyone notices great tanks and great dps group members. But I've found that the very best healers are the ones that you tend to forget are even there...just because they keep your bar full and nothing goes wrong. It's a thankless job. I try to make it a point to thank my healer at the end of every run.

ha ha - you just put Holy Pally at the top of the list because you have one. :) Just kidding.

I agree with Paladense though. In general, it is the skill of the player, and not the class. All classes have their pluses and minuses.

For example - Pallys are not AoE healers. If everyone in the group gets hit by an AOE spell, Pallys are scrambling. However, if only the tank is being hit, a Pally is the most mana efficient single target healer (i.e. he will keep you alive forever).

Then, you can take a priest. They have MC (when applicable), which is pretty much the best CC in an instance (since it actually kills the target). A healer + "super CC" is pretty cool.

The list can go on and on.

Just find a healer that you enjoy playing with, and add them to your Friend list. As long as they are good at keeping you alive, then they are doing their job.

if i done /4 lf healer for daily heroic and got /w from one of each id prov chose a priest, dont know hwy i jsut would.

but yes i would never turn down a healer jsut because of their class, its jsut silly.....well maybe a resto druid, i dnt like them in 5mans had too many bad experiences with them in heroics.
