low level warlock macro for grindingFollow

#1 Feb 08 2008 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
hi, i'm kinda new to the macro thing, and while i've got a basic feel of it, i'm having a problem.

so far, my macro is set up like this

/petattack
/castsequence corruption; immolate; curse of agony
/castshoot

i'm not sure if this would be a good way to go about attacking things right now, but it's worked for my first few levels.

my problem, is that immolate and curse of agony don't get cast, now, i'm no expert about anything, but ive heard the global cooldown time is 1.5 second, so, by the time corruption (currently at 1.6 seconds) finishes casting, there shouldn't be anything wrong casting the next two. i'm probibly wrong about this.

if i think about it, i'm not sure, but is there a way to do something like this?

/petattack
/cast corruption
(command for waiting 1.6 seconds before attempting another spell, so the duration finishes)
/cast immolate
(wait 2 seconds)
/cast curse of agony
/cast shoot

For the record, i tried reading the macro thread, just put me through a lot of confusion, so if anyone here knows anything about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think the problem your having is due to using semi colons between the spells if I remember correctly it's supposed to be commas. I may be wrong though since I don't use cast sequence and haven't for a while, but I suggest trying this /castsequence corruption, immolate, curse of agony.

Hope that helps

Oh also you have to keep clicking the macro for all the spells to cast. All /castsequence does is move to the next spell on the list.

and if your spell gets resisted you have to manually reapply it anyways...

yeah, I've never been a big fan of castsequence. As Oaken said, resists mean you have to manually recast, and on boss fights in instances, they never wear off in the order you cast them, so you may need to re-apply Immolate, but you hit your macro it's gonna cast CoA. So if you need seperate macros anyway, why use a /castsequence?

at low levels and for farming, castsequence works just fine because the mob is dead before you will need to recast your sequence. I've divided up into two macros:

1)
/Dismount
/PetAttack
/Cast Amplify Curse (high-level only)

2) (low-level)
/Castsequence reset=target/combat Curse of Agony, Corruption, Immolate

2) (high-level)
/Castsequence reset=target/combat Siphon Life, Corruption, Unstable Affliction, Immolate

for High levels I don't put any curses into the sequence, because I might choose Curse of Doom in some fights instead of Curse of Agony.

----

After those, I cast Life Tap and Drain Life (not on macros) for drain-hunting. Against bosses, I do completely different things, but I'm fairly certain that we aren't talking about someone doing heroics or raids here.

My point though, was if you can't use it ALL the time, then why even have it taking up a button? That's why I don't use them, I have precious little button space as it is.

I admit, at his level, or just for farming at higher levels, it may work well, but I like having all my buttons in the same place all the time for everything, this way I KNOW what I am hitting. Just a personal preference I guess. Hopefully Mike's advice gets you straightened out.

Because when all you are doing is grinding normal mobs, then it is much simpler?

I assume, considering he said a "low level" macro, he isn't going to be anyplace soon where an alternate cast sequence would be an issue.

Plus, it is smart to reorganize your bars for raiding anyway, as you don't necessarily use all of the same skills the same amount as leveling.
