30's are so Boring!!!!Follow

#1 Feb 07 2008 at 8:39 PM Rating: Decent
I just transfered a priest i had been neglecting to another pvp server that some friends play on. I'm trying to lvl as fast as possible because all my friends are 70 and want me to hurry up and catch up. So far I have encountered 2 main problems: 1) I don't seem to lvl fast at all even though i quest as much as possible. and 2) I feel extremely bored and weak at my current lvl (31).

I have looked through the threads on the first few pages and have found some cast sequences that i have tried out to see if it improves how fast and efficiently i kill things. However, only one really seems to work, and it's very boring and not very efficient.

This is the cast sequence I use: MB > SW:P > VE > PW:S > MF (1 - 2x) > wand to death.
The other cast sequences i've seen have suggested not using PW:S because it's mana inefficient. But if i don't use it then my MF's get interrupted and they end up being mana inefficient...

Ok, all that to ask: 1) is there a better cast sequence i could be using? and 2) does lvling get any faster or less boring?

Sorry for the semi-rant

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert as I'm levelling my first priest (have 3 other 70s tho). I'm 36 atm.
My sequence is PW:S, Holy fire, MB, SW:P, wand to death. I have 5 points in wand spec just for levelling, all the rest of my points are in shadow. I have little down time and can go through things pretty quick. You gotta keep your wand current though to maximize your XP grind.

And I'm finding the 30s a blast. I'm on a pvp server as well and average 10-15 HKs per session. It definitely breaks up the monotony. I even taunted a rogue with /chicken in BB and he attacked me right next to some guards. I had a good laugh when he was pummeled to death...and I had a really good laugh when he rezzed and tried to sap me and stealth away, the guards don't like that either lol.

Cheers!

I am in the process of leveling my priest (dinged 50 today) 30's are by far the worst. too many places to quest, not a fast enough way to turn them in. I did Alterac for the early 30's until I got bored of the 70 nelf hunters that are tough enough to beat up my 30 something priest, but not my never instance'd 65 lock lol.

When I had a quest or 2 that stumped me for any length of time I swapped to a new quest, or a new area. Stonetalon mountains, Thousand Needles, Splintertree Post, all have lots of quests that you can do.

I use a few mods that help me more than you can imagine. Lightheaded lets you read the comments on the wowhead site for each quest and highlights the coords listed in the comments.
TomTom lets you click on that highlighted coord and it will display a waypoint on the map, a blip on the minimap and has an option for an oversized arrow to point the way for you. I like to pickup all the quests for an area, and place the dots for each of them on the map, and plan a route. Dont go back to town after every quest, heck I dont even empty my bags, if I get low on bagspace I turn lootfilter on and continue on until all the quests on my planned route are finished.

Alot of the quests send you to the same proximity so always take advantage of information that you can find.

Once you hit 40 and have shadow form and a mount your exp rate should almost double (mine did) I averaged 2 or 3 hours a level for the entire of my 40's, where you get VT and get to have a little less down time than before.

Stick with it, you will get stronger. to save mana, I found MB > VE > SW:D > MF > fear when the mob gets melee range then MF again or wand (if mind flay crits I usually can wand them to death before scream wears off, if not i MF first then wand).

Whoa, take it easy...

... I have a 14 priest I have to level this weekend (now that I finally have a few days off coming up), and I don't need to hear that upcoming levels are going to suck.

I have two priests. 30s don't suck really. There are plenty of places to quest though, which can be confusing. If you want to maximize your leveling you can try some of the leveling guides that are out there.

Don't do quests one at a time, try to go the areas that have mobs you need for more than one. Kill everything in your path. Make large circles of an area. You'll be 40 before you know it.

Plan out your route ahead of time. Have bags emptied, plenty of food and drink. GO FORTH AND CONQUER.

Another way to get experience (points and game-exp.) are the Scarlet Monestary Instances. There are some nice quests and drops for priests there and you can get from 30 to 40 just from killing mobs there. First Graveyard, then Library, Armory and Cathedral. Many people love these instances, since they're short, relatively easy and easy to reach (for Horde). For Alliance there are less quests and it's a damn long walk if you don't get to be summoned.

Instances are easily the best way to gain levels on Priest.

You should seek for instances and quest until you get a group together. Often times I don't even bother to go to summoning stones, I simply continue to quest. I figure if I don't do it now, I won't finish it later. (I personally have a one-track mind.)

Honestly though, tanks and healers have it very easy in instances. And doing instance runs yield a lot more xp than solid questing since your solo kill speed is not up to par.

Questing does get easier after you get Shadowform and Vampiric Embrace though. If you're holy or discipline, I suggest changing your spec so that you can more effectively quest. Especially since a shadow priest is still a perfectly acceptable group healer.

If you have quests in the instance, exping by doing instances is a decent way, if you however dont have quests in there, normal quest-grinding would be faster.

Anyways, Instancing is quite a lot more entertaining than the good old quest-grinding :P

Solo shadow priest techniques from my view:

Watch your cooldowns more closely. PW:S should be done before the pull to 1) give less time before another can be done and 2) get the global spellcast cooldown out of the way.

Technique 1: PW:S, MB, SW:P, flay (mob should be just coming in range), flay, wand to death.
Technique 2 (mana efficient but pull away from other mobs): MB, SW:P, flay (maybe x2). When mob gets just to you use fear (rank 1) and then flay them to keep them in range going slow (or in other words fear kite them). then wand to death. This substitues fear (rank 1) and flay (more damage) for the PW:S which does no damage to the mob.

Find easy pull areas as there are a lot of them.
Use VE only if you are < 100% health and potentially use it to pull with instead of MB. You need use wisely the spell cooldowns till the mob reaches you. If you start at max range you can get 2 flays in before the mob reaches you.

don't listen to those that said to do instances, you will waste most of your time wiping and waiting for a group at lower levels, you pretty much have to rough it out until 40 when you can put all of your points into shadow and get shadowform

Tell your high level friends that if they want you to get up there fast, they'll have to help.

Have them run you through SM over and over and you'll get glorious XP. Put the loot on free for all so they can kill and you can pick up. Heal them the best you can between pulls, and really RUN through the entire instance. Best to have a mage/pally friend who can AOE well, but whoever you can get who is the most skilled will probably be best.

You'll get good exp, and good loots for when you go back to questing.

In fact if you run instances from time to time it's true that it can be painful with pugs. But if you run instances on a regular basis, let's say more than once a week, you'll have a friend list full of people you've run instances with. Believe me it's very easy to get a good group then.

All I do is running instances; I never quest unless it's a quest inside an instance. It usually takes me about 15 minutes to get a group. There's more, other players know me and I receive lots of pst asking me if I want to run an instance with them. It's so fun! Healers are always in high demand.

About the advice to run instances with high level characters, it depends on the situation. If you want loot then yes it's a good thing, although it can be very boring. If you want xp then no, you'll receive greatly diminished xp because of your high level friend.
