Enh Shammy/Healer or Rogue/Healer for arena..?Follow

#1 Feb 07 2008 at 7:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys.. I wanted to make either a rogue or a shammy for arena.. Mostly 2v2 but I'll get into 3s and 5s as well. The thing is, I have a 70 enh shammy sorta retired.. thinkin of putting him back to work, and no rogue.

I would like to team up with a healer for the typical healer/dps combo. I had my mind set on my enh shammy but people say thats stupid. A rogue would be much better. So Im wondering what you all think? Let me explain why I think an enh shammy.. Most teams are Dps/healer. I would want either a pally or pref a druid healer. See, they could cc the dps, I could earthbind to keep the dps off the healer or myself when he's not stunned from pally or cycloned/rooted from the druid. In the meantime I would be beating down the healer.. and this is where I see why an enh shammy would be better..

Purge all pesky hots off him (biggest reason). Backup healing. Small cooldown on earth shock interrupt. Heroism to go huuge dps on him. Huge damage from windfury. Poison cleansing totem and cure poison to keep a rogues crippling poison off so I can keep up with healer. And easy casting slowing with magma totem.

A rogue has kick, but thats 10 seconds. Cant slow a druid down because of abolish poison. Cant purge off shields or hots. Cant keep multiple chars snared. Yeah, they can stun and have blind cc and can tele to their target and remove harmful effects. But with a healer, they can usually remove most harmful effects.

So it just SEEMS like an enh shammy would be the better choice for taking down the healer quickly. Please let me know which you think would be more effective.. Enh shammy/healer or Rogue/healer. Please tell me why too.. Nobody has done so yet. Thanks all!
(PS. Please dont suggest ele Shammy. People have but I have no desire to play elemental. Thx)

I would have to say Rogue for a DPS/Healer team. I have a Rogue and a shaman, and Enhancement just isn't a mobile spec. Your strategy assumes they will go after your healer. Almost all teams I'v seen will target the shammy first, no matter what. They can always cc your healer and kite you around, and there's just about nothing you could do about it.

You can always throw Earthbind down, but it has what... 5hp? Any ranged class will destroy you.

Of course, an Enhancement Dps is pretty scary most of the time, and if you get to the enemy healer (a big "if") you could kill them in a very small amount of time depending on what class. Also, some HoT's you shouldn't purge..aka lifebloom.

A rogue though, has a higher mobility than Enhance shammy's. A rogue has some cc's. A Rogue can sap, blind, stun, and incapacitate. There are so many ways a rogue can lock a healer down.

So, you could pick whichever one you want and do well with both of them, you'll just have an easier time with the rogue. If you do go with a Shammy though, a pally healer is nice with Blessing of Freedom.

Edit: of course my opinion is biased in favor of Rogues since my fisrt Character was one. You can always try posting on the Shaman boards or maybe Gaudion or Paracleets will come post here to help you decide further.

Both of them pretty well suck. If you're going to start a new class for arena, roll a warrior. Team up with a druid, get to 2000 and profit.

Edit:

Do not try to be "different" and say "no I will make my 2v2 team work!". You will fail and have wasted a large deal of time. If you are rolling a character for the sole reason of arena, join the majority and roll a warrior.

See i dont like the playstyle of a warrior, i prefer to be behind the seens doing heaps of dmg but having lots of ways of escaping. Best arena team IMO would be warrior/rogue/druid or shammy

Yes, and how do you "escape" from an arena battle? That's the fundamental problem with rogues in arena, we're made to be able to escape when things aren't going our way which in large scale encounters or against warriors is often. In the BG this is remedied by just vanishing and going elsewhere, in arenas you not only leave your team mates one man short but can also be found easily due to second sight.

Hence, if you're rolling a character for arena you should roll a warrior.

Rogue/Mage does fine in 2s...the Shaman is the weak one not the Rogues.

That really wasn't funny.

I meant as in "they suck".

Shao, you really have been speaking from your *** for the last month or two. I've not called you out on it yet, but pretty soon I'm going to organize a group downrating on every single one of your posts, because you're not giving out reliable info anymore (not that you really gave out info, but you didn't give out info that was blatantly false).

It's gotten to the point where you either need to stop, or I'm going to stop you.

what if Shao organized a counter-downgrading, then we would all have to choose sides...

What posters would Shao call upon? Theo has the advantage here, he's the one with a carefully cultivated evil empire and dozens of minions.

"Summon Greater Downrating". /chuckle

That's assuming I care about my post ranking theo :)

Although on the whole, I'd find it rather funny to have a down rating army that follows my every move. Surely you'd agree it would be awesome as well. I mean, I've always wanted to be remembered, even if it is infamously.

I'm just trying to get you to stop acting like a moron.

I know it's going to be difficult, but I think I'm up to the challenge.

Edit: either that or get you to the point where no one believes the **** that comes out of your mouth.
