Hunter Professions Follow

Just wondering what best profession for a hunter are. I presently have enchanting at 301 and Tailoring 340+ as used to gear my SP up. Was thinking of dropping the tailoring though and wondered what you all suggest.

No point doing herbing as my SP is 375.

Was thinking of engineering due to scopes and making own weapons. I could quite easily lvl to 180 with the mats I have on my minor/JC. But after that would need to buy as my minor is not high enough.

Should I drop tailoring at all ???

Enchanting is fine. Tailoring on a hunter isn't very useful. Drop that for something else. That something else will depend a lot on what other toons you might have that can feed this toon raw materials, how much gold you have to spend, etc.

Tailoring isn't a bad choice if your using it to complement enchanting. If your done with using it to get up enchanting, then engineering is a good bet, if your willing to spend a lot.

i'm going to drop m,y 250 tailoring soon for something better like mining or skinning as they re good money makers. i suggest keep enchanting as thats a handy skill to have and maybe pick up eng for the scopes which r pretty expensive at +12 dmg and 28 crit

As a 70 hunter i have tried many trades , the one i wish i had started with is engineering though , i now have an alt doing engineering and the benefits from it are great , the guns/scopes all sell well , the exploding stuff all helps as well and the robot helpers give you an extra fighting pet for those times when you get mobbed , it does need mining with it though as trying to buy materials would break your bank in time.

leather-working can be good at times but only if you want to spend hours grinding , i know as my main spends most of her time trying to get her trade up to 375 , dam skins take forever to collect and the other things needed like primals well they are no fun either. plus would need skinning skill as mats get expensive

jewel-crafting can be great but again needs mining

Last week i rolled 4 horde hunters and a priest just to get the trades , So far i have the priest at level 11 and doing well with enchanting and tailoring , it works well as all the alts send her the cloth , so she is getting to a decent level.
the B.E. hunter i got to 21 and is my jewel-crafter , doing ok there.
the orc hunter at 11 is my leatherworker and is supplying the others with armour.
the Troll hunter at 11 is my engineer and so far has given the others bullets and guns/sights , again doing ok there.
the Tauren hunter at 11 is my herbalist , still working on her though.

all in all a lot of work and yet i have about 12g after starting all 5 just a week ago , i hope to keep all of them roughly level and with the trades slightly above their level , so far doing all the trades except blacksmithing seems to be very useful , but i may even try that with one alt and use 1 alt as my main miner .

i would say depending on your level it all depends on what you want , if you are 60+ with things like engineering you will see no benefit until you get the skill right up as most stuff is not sellable and will be of no use to you , and selling to vendors will make little gold if any , but the guns/scopes and bullets can be sold and high end sell for a decent profit

I use Engineering and mining on my hunter.
mining is easy money and easy way to skill my engineering.

u should drop tailoring for engineering imo, because u can make own weps, scopes and good arrows/bullets :)

Ya, but I quiver at the cost to get Engineering to max level (and sustain it) without Mining...

And Sandra, why do you have Engineering on an alt? Practically everything they make requires Engineering to use. It is your choice, but you may want to make the alt something like an alchemist and take Engineering on your main.

Ok, everyone keeps talking about mining and engineering. I'm a 64 hunter, and I am getting really sick of buying ammo and scopes. The question I have is, how do you miners track ore as well as something like humanoids or whatever? Or do you just mine if you see a deposit?

Well thanks for all the responses!!

Will be changing to Engineering as my main does get me a lot of G.

It really isn't too bad. My hunter is an herbalist AND a dwarf. I end up keeping my herb tracking up 90% of the time, occassionaly turning on treasure find if I'm in a promising area. The only time I use my other tracking skills are for specific quests. Those quests usually keep you in one area anyway, so just check for ore deposits every once in a while.

It's a juggling act to be sure.

My hunter is a miner, and I usually run with Find Minerals on track the majority of the time. I only switch to other tracking types when I'm doing battlegrounds or specific quests where I'm trying to find a certain named mob or mob type.

Tracking is really cool to have in specific situations. I only really "use" it while i'm grinding/ farming to find the mobs faster or find a specific mob, but the rest of the time it's up simply because it can be....

If I have a gathering skill like mining or herbalism i'd have that up 90% of the time.... although I do have to say, having track humanoids up while farming/ grinding helps keep you from getting ganked a lot.
