They're probably about the same in terms of personal DPS. Elemental has an easier time getting geared up and competitive.

Raid DPS accounts for all buffs and so on. For example, a Survival hunter may have 1200 personal DPS versus a BM hunter's 1500, but the Survival hunter's 250AP buff to everyone attacking the boss and Improved Hunter's Mark adds another 500dps via other people's increased damage. For shammies, enhance is farther ahead due to improved Windfury totem that's loved so much by fury warriors. They're both highly valued, however.

In level 70 PvP, especially arena, elemental does more damage, or at least does better. Elemental shammies tend to be targetted first because they're more dangerous and can put out a ton of damage fast, enhance shammies are often targetted first because they're an easy kill.

If you are in a 25-man raid in a true melee DPS group (rogue, rogue, fury war, feral druid, enhance shaman), WF Totem adds a nice chunk of damage to the 2ogues and war.

Elemental shamans in a caster group with 2 mages, a warlock, and a shadow priest (assuming you have 2 shadow priests, if not the 1 you have will probably be a mana battery for yoru healers) can add some nice extra DPS with Wrath of Air Totem and Totem of Wrath.

It really just comes down to which spec you enjoy playing more.

Elemental probably has slightly higher personal DPS, but enhance's raid damage increase is probably higher.

I found this to be untrue. When I first started gearing myself as Elemental, I had a hell of a time doing so. There's next to zero mail caster gear in Kara and anything that may benefit me, cloth, leather, I'm also competing with Boomkins and Mages/Spriests/Warlocks. So it took me a while to get it higher, whereas my Enhance Shaman friend ran Kara twice and had almost collected all the gear he had wanted.

As far as damage goes, that should never be your personal goal. Do your best, but also buff your party. If an Enhance Shaman goes to a raid setting, his melee group will bust out huge numbers with WF, GOA, and SoE. However, from my Elemental perspective, dropping a WoA, ToW, and Mana Totem allows me to buff myself and my fellow casters, while the enhance Shaman always lose out on buffs if he's dropping a worthless to himself Windfury.

I can push respectable damage though, I topped damage on Void Reaver once, but that's because next to zero orbs came near me. Also finished 2nd to my rogue friend on Leotheras the Blind. Unfortunately, that's as far as my guild has gotten.

There really isn't any good enhancement armor in Kara either.

Everything has AP instead of Str, and more hit rating than crit rating.

The only 2 pieces of gear in Kara that are nice for enhance spec are the fist from BBW and the Axe from Prince.
