Any reason to get a mount?Follow

Its only 20% faster than travel form, and I really dont plan on PvPing until I'm 60 for the AV mount. I guess it would make getting from place to place easier, but besides that there might not really be a need for it.

And yes, I'm getting the skill so I can get the epic one at 60.

Anyway, thanks for the advice in advance.

You're right, besides getting from place to place easier there's not really a need for it. Same thing could be said of the car I use to commute to work, though. I personally find great value in spending 20% less time running from place to place. Frankly that's just not what I spend my $15 a month to do.

Much like the 30% speed boost of Feral Swiftness speeds up leveling until you get travel form, the 20% boost over travel form speed is noticeable and worthwhile for both leveling and farming. Also, you can run through groups of mobs without constantly getting "dazed" -- just much less frequently dismounted. Since you know you're gonna wanna get it eventually anyway, spend the money sooner to get more value/enjoyment out of that investment. It's like Lasik--the sooner you buy it the more years of clear eyesight you have.

That's my $.02 anyway.

IMO, you don't need it the second you ding 40 if you aren't doing BG's, but it's useful, so get it as soon as it's not a financial hardship. I stick with travel or cat when I want to gather herbs or fight stuff on the way, but sometimes you just want to get there already, and even the regular mount does make a difference. I run around between zones a lot while leveling, so having a mount just helps me level faster.

Get it as soon as you can as long as you can still pay for training your skills when you level. You are going to have to buy it anyway later on so you can get your flying skill, so you may as well get the benefit of it now and let it speed up your leveling in the meantime.

If you play on a PVP server I would really encourage you to get the mount as soon as you can afford it. Otherwise you are an easy target to chase down with 20% less speed.

Flight form requires 150 riding (epic land mount equivilant) so you might as well get it anyway.

I bought my mount, and am thoroughly suprised how much I just use travel form. I say get it, since it's like 90g~ all together, and you only save like 9g by skipping the mount.

It's helpful when traveling from point A to point B as has been said. You're call, but I say get it even if you don't use it to much.

You will notice the difference when you buy it. It seems small numbers, but, actually, when 50% of your time on WoW is spent walking, you will be thanking you bought that.
Even so when you get to bigger maps. Ungoro Cratter is a *****.

My kodo seems slower than travel form, but if you get in travel form and try to follow someone with a mount you will see there is a slight difference. When you are running around you notice it. I spent a bit of time in Dustwallow Marsh before my mount and now after and I see difference in runnnig through the mobs to get someplace. The biggest is not getting stunned (as mentioned above), but the speed is nice too.

The only thing I don't like is that travel form is instant cast and the mount takes 3 seconds... but it's still worth it.

If you're spending the gold to train the skill, why not spring for 8.5 more (if I'm remembering correctly) and get a mount? You'll make that money back almost immediately with an extra 20% to your movement over travel speed, enabling you to grind and gather faster.

Plus, nothing as sad as being in a group and having to say "wait up guys, I don't have my mount yet." Especially at, say, lvl 55.

iv know a lot of dr00ds who havnt bothered with their lvl 40 mount, as it doesnt realy take that long to get from 40-60

although most of them were pretty hardcore players

i suppose in some places the mount would be unneeded, if you are gonna be going rather short distances you will probably be better going in travel form than waiting 3 seconds to mount up

also if there are a lot of mobs around you and you think you will enter combat before you have mounted then yes travel form will be a better escape.

for my mass questing i would use the mount, over a space of 2 hours questing jsut think how much that extra 20% will get you

The question then becomes "when is it worth it to cast for the mount instead of just casting travel form?" If you are going to be running for more than 21 seconds, mount is better. Under 21 seconds you get more movement speed out of cheetah form. For an epic mount, it gets reduced to 7 seconds.

Tuskerdo is exactly right.

The mount will end up paying for itself. For example if you are walking for 5 minutes you could have saved yourself 1 minute of walking by traveling on a mount. A better example would be if you were walking for 50 minutes you could have saved yourself 10 min. In that 10 minutes you could easily make up the 9 gold to buy the mount. And 50 minutes isn't all that much if you think about how much you travel around.

So to sum it up, buy the mount! DO IT!
