I am new to the hunter class. Dinged 17 last night and I am loving it.

I have a couple questions regarding my pet.

1. My pet has something like 50 training points but is already trained in all the skills I have. Is this normal?

2. So far I've tamed a boar and a lion. I only tamed the lion to get the claw ability. My second question is are there any guides that tell you what animals to tame to learn the skills quickly and efficiently? I'm not sure if I am asking that right. I just don't want to be taming random animals and running all over looking for all the skills I need. I am hoping someone will tell me tame x, y, and x in this area to learn skills 1, 2, and 3.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Go to your abilities and there should be a thing you can do called Train Beast. There you can spend your training points. As for the pet question, go to Google and type in Pettopia. That site has all of the pets you can tame, what they are good at, where they are, what they look like, and what they can learn and what they come with ablility wise when you first tame them.

Yes. Save the points, don't teach your pet any resistances yet. You'll need all these points when you get the higher ranks of Great Stamina and Natural Armour. They're very hefty...

Just keep Growl and your DPS skills updated, and add Avoidance and Cobra Reflexes once they become avalable.

You can also use your hunter skill (Beast Lore) at level 24 to see what skills beasts know when you're out and about. Very handy, and often overlooked. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. As useful as that would be you'd think it would be available at a lower level. But as fast as my hunter is leveling he will be 24 very soon.
Thanks again!

In time, you will start thinking about what pet you are keeping rather than which skills to learn. You learned claw, but Boars can't ever learn it. Like people have said, Petopia is the hunter's friend. Try different pets, you can have 3 at a time. Boars are great, cats are good and try the other families also.

I've tamed other stuff but there is a great bond between my boar and I. Theres just something about being an orc hunter with a black boar questing in the Ghostlands... I guess it makes me feel tuff lol.

Ok so related. If points have been spent already - can you change them? What is the risk (if any) to checking them?

You can respec your pet same as you do yourself. Go to the pet trainer, and they will remove all talents, even the ones the pet started with. You will have to know the skills you want your pet to have, which will cause trouble on a newer pet, one you have not learned all the skills from.

Respeccing your pet only costs 10s first time, and resets every day.
