Ok 41 pts in Afflict, what else? lvl 70 grindingFollow

#1 Feb 06 2008 at 10:21 AM Rating: Decent
Okay so I just reached 68, decided to respec in preparation for lvl 70. I was Felguard spec but decided to go Afflict for lvl 70 because of the FSW and I really like that style of play a bit more than Demo. So I have the 41 pts in Afflict to get Improved Howl of Terror and Unstable. Now I was thinking of putting the rest into the Demo tree for DE, Imp Imp, Imp Fel Armor. But I know a lot of ppl go with the Destro tree for Destructive Reach and Shadowburn.

I plan on mostly farming for motes, and doing a lot of quests for gold when I first hit 70 to start earning my Epic Flyer money. So since I will be mostly soloing still at 70, no raiding yet. which build is best for grinding mobs.

this would be a decent farming specc for newly level 70 locks.

Oakenwrath's build is solid. I personally would go with Improved Healthstone over Improved Imp, but that's a matter of preference. I'm using this build at present. I took out Shadow Embrace because I was under the mistaken impression it wouldn't count towards Soul Siphon anymore. Bit heavier Destro than Oaken's build, but both are quite solid.

If you're not doing any instances at all, that'd probably be fine. You want to be as durable as possible while you're alone.

However, if you have any plans on doing instances at all, you definitely want to go with Destro as your secondary tree. A warlock's biggest damage spell in groups, regardless of spec, is Shadowbolt. Even as Affliction, you spam Shadowbolt. On trash, it's not worthwhile to put more than one or two DoTs down, since most trash dies before a DoT can run its full duration, so you spam SB. During boss fights, it's a waste of time to just apply your DoTs and wait around for them to expire, so you spam SB between DoT cycles. Destro obviously helps with this. The Improved Shadowbolt talent also helps a lot, as the boost to shadow damage applies to all of your DoTs (with the obvious exception of Immolate).

I'm also at 68 and considering a respec. I'm finding that while grinding my dots do not run all the way out, so it seems like a combination of dots and SB is a better for dealing damage. For that reason, I'm considering a link=http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IiMMiRckqtbZZxx0tr0z]40/0/21 build[/link]. Like the OP I'm mostly grinding for motes, and questing for gold. Should I go 41 in affliction for UA? Should I drop points out of Destro to add some Demo survivability (like the above posted builds)?

Thoughts?

Rykhorne:

you linked my build as yours^^

but i guess yours would be something like 41/0/20 ?

I went for the points in the demonology-tree for better surviveability,
while soloing/farming. Actually with the build i linked you can farm
Fireelementals (3-4 at a time) in Skald without ever having to stop a second.

Like I said earlier, if you're only really soloing, having the extra health from Demonic Embrace is quite helpful. It's a matter of personal preference, really. As long as you have the key talents (Impr. Corruption, Nightfall, UA, ISB, Bane, Shadowburn), it's not too important where the rest go (the cookie-cutter Affliction build is referred to as 41/x/1x for a reason...).

The build I'm using is intended for groups. That's why it has more destro. Destructive Reach and Devastation make a noticeable difference in an instance. Longer range is good, and the extra 5% crit helps keep Improved SB going. Although, with the supposed change to ISB in the next patch (it's apparently going to apply only to the caster's spells, not to the rest of the party), ISB might not be as big a deal anymore...

Doesn't really matter for farming. You'll rarely use anything from either tree, but you'll probably run instances and whatnot, maybe even kara so 43/7/11 works pretty good for general purpose farming/pve/pvp.

@Oaken, I'm a lazy *******! Don't make me click links :P Just give specs like 41/0/20, save me some clicky clicky haha.

43/0/18 is the build I generally use for farming, BGs and Kara runs :P (respec to 0/21/40 for 25 mans as we have 2 other affliction locks one with malediction). I never need to eat or drink with this spec and also almost never go OOM in boss fights (I just LT, Dark Pact and DL when I see my threat is too high).

p.s. I'm not sure what kind of gear you have/will have but affliction is the least gear dependant spec for warlocks and that automatically makes it the best build for a new 70 in greens and low level dungeon blues.

For leveling or grinding I liked going 41 affliction, then just working up the demo tree. Destruction will give you nice SBs but I never threw them unless Nightfall proced.

Having Improved Voidwalker was a huge help. It actually made it hard to pull aggro from him.
