Is it ok to still raid with 10/48/3?Follow

I love the Clearcasting spell this build gives. Now I hear that the new 'cookie cutter' build is 2/48/11. What do you guys think? Many mages in your guild still 10/48/3 or are most now going for Icy Veins?

If you're having mana issues, then 10/48/3 is still great. If not, seriously consider the new one.

all the mages in my guild (that raid) are specced 2/48/11, but as Pold said, if mana is an issue 10/48/3 is still a good build.

Thing is I still spend lots of time grinding for mats for my Spellfire set and doing daily quests for the Netherwing so the extra mana I save from Clearcasting is quite a good thing for me.

Looks like I'll stick with the 10/48/3 for now, but will probably re-spec in the future.

Thanks for the replies.

spellfire set, as mediocre as it is, is not worth the time spent getting the mats unless you happen to have everyone on hand (you bought all your gold illegally).

aside from pure +dmg, it has atrocious stats and is outrageously expensive as well -- requiring you to specialize in high end tailoring when there are so much more beneficial tradeskills to have...

use that money for enchants on the actually good gear (pvp sets, for instance). kara is not hard to get into and everything in there is better than spellfire any day. and much more entertaining to obtain...

I suggest doing a little spec testing of your own to see which one feels the best for you. There's a neat blog entry here that I found, all about mage DPS spec testing. Pretty good ideas - I suggest checking it out: http://www.raiders-art.com/progress/

It was a post from about a week ago called Mage Corner: Dr. Boom! A Mage's Best Friend.
