Shadow priest cast rotation?Follow

I've rolled a couple of priests in the past, and recently I transferred one to play with a friend (He's 70, I'm 23 :P ). All my priests are stuck in the early 20s simply because I have trouble killing things my level or above.

It's namely, I think, my cast rotation. I start off with Bubble, then Holy Fire, SW:P, Mind Flay, Mind Blast, and then wand down if he's low. if not low, I do another Mind Blast and wand.

Even though I have really good gear for my level (A ton of blue cloth form SFK), I'm terribly mana inefficent, even with spirit tap, and I'm mostly in int/spi gear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Give that a try. Also try to get the best wand for your level without breaking your bank. 5 points in spirit tap, maybe even 5 points in wand spec.

Hmmm...

Alright. I shall give it a shot when I get home. I've always opened up with Holy Fire because I've seen it as being very mana efficient, and it does quite a bit of damage.

The easiest way to do things is to mindblast, sw:p, fear, and then mindflay around while they're running. Wand them down for the last bit of their life.

At least I remember that being easy, I haven't leveled a priest in 3 years. >_>

While technically this may be the best theory be careful around social mobs you might inadvertently fear the mob into 2-3 of his friends.

Fear is my "Oh ****, I need to run away from this area asap" skill. We're not built like warlocks. At least for myself, I can't tank 4 mobs at the same time. I much rather having one mob beat on my shield and maybe take off about 15% of my hp, then the one mob I feared bringing back 1-3 mobs tearing through my shield and making me call them uncle.

While in the 20s priests are weak and mana inefficient. As stated before be sure to have the best possible wand. Early 20s you can use the Cookie Stirring Rod. There is also an excellent wand in BlackFathom Deeps, the Gravestone Scepter that you can use as soon as lvl 22 if I remember well.

I would not use Psychic Scream in my normal cast sequence because of the mana cost. Like azelia, I use it as a panic button.

Once in the 30s you will use your wand less and less. You'll start to have damage boosters talents (either as Shadow or Disc/Holy) and it'll become more efficient to use your spells.

Good luck.

I dunno, I think I just got used to leveling by pulling a mob back, and fearing it while keeping him moderately controlled with flay due to the slowdown.

The mana cost between shield and fear is pretty significant, and I believe that was my reasoning.

edit: Note that I was leveling before Molten Core even came out, so I dunno if things have changed.

Haven't really changed, no. Rank1Scream is great for keeping mobs off you. And you know when mobs are running away at low health or while under fear, they randomly stop for a second and change directions? Flay forces a direction change, so you can keep them from running into other mobs fairly easily, provided you didn't fear in a heavily-packed area.

If someone runs you through BFD, you can use the Gravestone Scepter as early as level 18 I think. 19 for sure since my WSG priest uses that wand and loves it dearly.
