What to duo with a mageFollow

My wife has decided to get back to playing. She's a 70 mage (fire atm).

I have, unfortunately, shielded her from becoming a good player. She has never run solo except to farm in areas 15 levels below her :). To put it bluntly, I wouldn't want her in a mid outlands instance without the rest of the group way overpowered. While she was leveling I played a prot warrior - basically her pet to take the brunt of the damage while she pew-pew'd away. I'm not overly fond of the warrior.

I have a lock, rogue and priest in addition to the warrior all at level 70. Of those, which do you recommend for me to run with her for basic grinding purposes? Which spec do you recommend for the class chosen?

Thanks in advance.

*edit* this is for basic rep/mat grinding and questing. Probably no instances or raids.

lock and rogue would be fine because they both bring great dps and cc. And the lock's pet and possibly tank if wanted.

Have you thought about re-rolling with her? See where she wants to go with a new toon? Idk, just a thought but that would (I'd think) curb the hand holding right there :D Let her grab the long sword and plate-mail and tank for you while you pew pew your life away. Then again...maybe the lock is a better idea :P

Yes, we have tried alts. She doesn't like the in your face stuff. Really just likes playing a mage :)

Btw, this is her first and only computer game. She is a machine at making money, however. Didn't think anything of farming strangle kelp to make 4g a stack (pre BC) ie. no risk, easy money

Maybe let her spec frost and let her AOE farm stuff? Jump on youre priest to assist her and in time let her solo AOE farm.
Vultures, boars, in HFP are good to start out.

Imo, it makes you a better mage relativly fast you learn all about strafing, turning fast, aka: moving like a mage.
The mage CD's and how to keep half an eye on them, the GCD timing, melee distance of mobs (handy to avoid cleave/whirlwind range loads of mobs have in instances), sheeping the stray fast and such.
If she is in love with mages, solo AOE grinding wil put her in a glee.

Maybe it gets her over the "fear" of dying. Which i think she has if she doesnt take risks like you described. Mages die loads before they become any good, fate of a clothie.
Somesort of the same as with skateboarding, you cant ever learn how to if youre afraid to fall.

Ain't that the truth. I swear I have spent more time in ghost form while leveling my mage than any of my other characters. Wonder if there is some mod which will track how many times you die?

Agreed. If she's willing to try AoE grinding, running your priest would make that learning process much less painful. Shields and heals to save her from her keyboard turning and...wait, are we trying to reduce hand-holding here or reinforce it? ;)

For straight-up, non-AoE grinding, my vote is definitely rogue. You want your dps to match that of your partner, though the match that matters is type, not volume. Rogue and mage are both capable of major burst. I suppose if your lock was destro, then that might have a similar synergistic effect.

You know it's funny, I think this is all about personal playstyle or habit. I died way, way more on my rogue from 1-20 than I did on my mage in that range. What makes it ever more strange is that the mage was my first toon, the rogue my 3rd or 4th.
