Was wondering if there was a cap on how much dodge should be stacked before stacking other stats such as stamina. BTW im currently 21.5% dodge 17.86% parry and 20.86% block at 501 defense.

I've never heard of a cap but your numbers are way above the suggested minimum for dodge/parry for starting Kara. You didn't mention how far your guild is progressed so I don't know the suggested minimums for HP/stats/armor for your level of play so it's hard to give a proper answer.

From what I've read, there are two ways to approach gearing up a tank and that is to either stack stamina so as to survive bigger hits or to stack mitigation so you don't get hit as often and take less damage when you do. Both ways have their advantages and disadvantages and there are fights that favor one build over the other at times.

A link to your armory profile could help the experts give you better answers.

My guild is to clearing Kara up to prince... I didnt link because i logged off with a few pieces of pvp gear on. I am currently using the pvp shield and sword to tank but havent had any issues with mitigation only problem is the weaopon speed im hoping king defender will drop soon. Also like to add that i had to get my +hit from somewhere.... the biggest reason for this post was trying to decide between more dodge or more pure stats i have some heroic epics ive picked up and some kara epics im trying to juggle around.

I'm using the sword and pvp shield but it keeps my mitigation the same. Any tips or advise would be great trying to do the best job for guild.

We're around the same level as or a little behind your guild, I think. We can clear through Curator easily but still have some problems with Shade and Prince. I'm starting to try to add more stamina without giving up my mitigation because even with two healers on me during the second phase of Prince's fight, I still go down about half the time. My unbuffed HP is around 12500 right now and I think if I can push it up close to 13500 without sacrificing much in mitigation, I will be a little better off on certain fights. I was in Gruul's Lair with another guild and while I was okay for handling tanking one of the mobs in the King fight, I could see that I would need a ton of more stamina to even hope to main tank Gruul as he pretty much one-shot me with a hurtful strike during one of the attempts.

If you're not having problems with dying during boss fights even with a well-geared healer, I wouldn't worry about it but I think to progress farther you will need to stack some more stamina eventually.

One little suggestion would be to trade your Andormu's Tear for the Violet Signet as the dodge loss is slight but it will bump your armor, stamina and defence up a bit. The other thing I noticed was that you seem to have one talent point uncommited unless the armory is wrong so go stick that point somewhere. :)

Oh - and I agree about the hit rating thing. I'm trying to find ways to increase that as well as I hope it will help my threat generation as well as minimize my taunt resists.

to elaborate further -

stack armor and stamina for progression; this gives your healers a more predictable rate of health loss to heal, and also more time to do it in.

stack avoidance and TPS (expertise/hit/SBV) for farming runs; your healers and dps already know what's up, so there are no surprises and you want to pump out the most threat and take the least amount of damage as possible so the raid can get to the goodies faster.

I found this while looking for some stat guidelines:

Xordon wrote:
That being said you are very well-geared. For the hit rating: It's recommended to have 3-5% hit when raiding. If you want the optimal number however, you'll be aiming at 8.6%. That's 136 hit rating. It shouldn't be very hard to get, but it will be at the expence of your other stats. These are the stats that should be the aim for any tank pre-kara :

- Minimum of 12k HP unbuffed. Preferably 14k selfbuffed.
- 490-500 defense skill.
- 30% avoidance (Parry + dodge).
- 12-13k armour unbuffed.

These are the stats that should be the aim for any tank post-kara:

- Minimum of 14k HP unbuffed. Preferably 16k selfbuffed.
- 490-500 defense skill (Still, even with 0/5 in anticipation your gear will probably push your defense to over 500. Don't worry though, it's not a BAD stat by any means, and shouldn't be avioded. Rather, you should just aim for other stats that serve your tanking better).
- +8.6% hit (136 hit rating).
- 40% avoidance (Parry + dodge).
- 14-15k armour unbuffed.

So, that looks like a good set of stats to work towards for both of us. :D
