Seal of Righteousness or Vengance for tanking?Follow

I used to always use SoR to tanking (after applying JoCr or JoW) but recently switched to SoV for most mobs that take a while to go down and all bosses. I like the constant threat trickle SoV gives me once 5 stacks are up but its really annoying the times I watch the timer tick down from 15 seconds to zero and watch all those stacks slide off the boss. It happens alot more than I'd like tbh.

I haven't noticed that much difference in aggro generation between the two (although SoV is better when offtanking and trying to keep threat up with the MT), so was thinking of going back to SoR and maybe picking up the libram and the Imp SoR talents to see if it boosts my threat significantly.

Anyone any thoughts or maths on this for me? :)

No maths from me, just experience: SoR for most trash, SoV for bosses and higher health trash. I don't think 10 points in Holy is worth it for a tank, regardless of which talents you take, so just get used to switching between the 2 Seals.

Ah, I didn't look at the trees and forgot Imp SoR is in Holy. I might still see if if I can pickup the libram and remain uncrushable, and see if it helps my threat at all. It's fine in 5 and 10mans but in 25mans I want to let the mages and warlocks nuke a little harder, especially on the bosses we haven't got on farm yet and are racing against enrage timers.

Is there anyway you can stop SoV stacks falling off the boss? spellhit or anything or is it just luck?

SoV stacks is not a judgement, just a dot.

Not sure, this would be nice to know... but I have a feeling the only way is to post on the blue forums over-n-over until they give in & increase proc chance.

SoV is nice, once 5 stacks are on its beats SoR by a landslide. But I agree you need to have a long lasting MOB/Boss to use it to it's max benefits.

I've always used SoR for tanking. I just can't bring myself to use SoV.

On a side note - if you have Reckoning, I'd always recommend SoR over SoV.

The only way to refresh the Vengeance DoT is to have a SoV proc, that's it sadly. And yea, I kinda took Reckoning out of the equation >.< If you're still using Reckoning, SoR all the time. Once you hit a certain gear point having Reckoning is no longer a great idea and you should spec out of it. Then SoV will be the better choice depending on the length of fights.

Well, it really comes down to luck, but there are things you can do to adjust luck in your favor:

Spell hit is used to determine if SoV lands (when it procs that is). So more spell hit will make it more likely to stay up.

Also, improving your exerpertise and regular hit rating will make you more likely to hit the mob (rather than dodge/parry or miss), which will also increase your chances of getting the SoV debuff to stay up as it certainly isn't going to proc if you fail to hit.

SoV is a procs per minute ability. Getting a slightly slower weapon makes it more likely to proc on each swing, which should even out your distribution of it proccing a bit.

That being said, you're probably better off itemizing for spell damage to increase your threat.

From my experience, it seems like using a faster weapon increases the chance that the SoV stacks will expire, which probably has to do with the procs per minute.

I used to use Crystalforged Sword with 1.80 speed, and I currently have Merciless Gladiator's Gavel with 1.60 speed. On a fight like Prince, the stack would only expire once or twice while using the Crystalforged Sword. Now that I use the faster gavel, the stack expires multiple times per fight.

But in terms of which produces more threat, I have no idea. XD

right now, im thinking SoR is better for everything if your tanking. SoV isnt good with 1H because it dosent really stack at all. SoR is MUCH more consistent

On the contrary SoV IS good with a one hand, but I think the slower it is the better. But, you have to compliment that with it being fast enough to build up your threat. The advised 1.8-2.0 second swing time for a tanking weapon is plenty for SoV as well.

And while each tick of Vengeance won't do much on its own, it is often very nice to have that constant flow of threat from the DoT on longer fights. the longer the fight, the more SoV should win out over SoR.

i seal crusader pull with AS pop aoe judge crusader seal SOR judge sor seal SOV and judge when evern i can. all the time keeping holy shield up. thats just on boses i normaly am way above the threat needed. and normaly only judge SOV when 5 ticks are ticking.

as to it being applyed faster with slower weapon no. it has a proc per min it just seems it procs more due to the slow ness of your weapon.just like any other proc. now just cause it says proc per min dont mean it's really gonna proc that min that many times it's an average and i dont even know how long they average out when figureing out ppm's.

edited had light instead of crusader's
