Just started a priest and got him to 25 with Mining and Jewelcrafting, and realized that maybe I should be working up to either Mooncloth or Shadowcloth tailoring for 70. So my question is, are the epic 3-sets from these skills worth the money I'd have to spend to level JC without mining? Alternatively I could drop JC and stick with mining or herbalism until 70 (in which case, which would make more money?), but I just wanted some alternate input. Any advice?

I'd keep your professions now I think. Once you get it to 325 and are able to prospect Adamanatite, JC'ing becomes the most profitable profession by far (one of my friends spends about 1000g on ore a day and makes back more than double that). Keep mining to help you level it. Stockpile cloth in your bank or on an alt so that you can powerlevel tailoring at a later time, after you drop mining.

I'd say keep what you have now. When you're in your low 60s, switch over from mining to tailoring and powerlevel it up to 350 and start making your PMC or FSW. The four day cooldown is annoying. Unless you get help from other tailors or the AH, you need 13 cycles for your 3 piece set.

Can you be a useful end game raider/instance healer if you don’t take up enchanting and tailoring? It seems to be any decent type caster/healer you are almost pigeon holed into these professions. I was thinking of taking up alchemy/herbing since what caster doesn’t need pots and such? How much am I going to short change myself in the end if I don’t choose the other 2 professions? Just gets old when you make a caster that you have to take up tailoring/enchanting for gear in the end.

Tailoring and Alchemy. Tailoring we all know gets you some decent epics good until T5 or T6. Enchanting, if I remember correctly only gives me the +20 healing or +12 dmg to each ring. I believe the other enchants can be done by other enchanters. Alchemy gives me the [wowitem=13503]Alchemist's Stone[/wowitem].

The trinket is from Scryer rep. I am surprised if you are a healer you went that way. I always thought Aldor faction was the way for the healers to go?

who? Me? Recipe: Alchemist's Stone is from Sha'tar, which comes from farming Bot, Mech, Arc. From what I heard, Aldor if you don't plan on raiding and Scryer if you do. Or was it the other way around.....

I'll look it up later.

Edit: cuase I speel gewd

Aldor is pretty much better for any caster or healer, due to the shoulder enchants. More raw +dmg and less crit. For melee dps, hunters, and tanks, it's more up to personal preference.

Yep. Primal Mooncloth is replaced with T6 eventually and ring healing enchants aren't that big a deal. Being a tailor/enchanter will certainly give you big advantages in the endgame, but they are by no means mandatory.
